Gateway Classic Cars of Tulsa is proud to digitally present this
1969 Pontiac GTO.
Own a true piece of drag racing history with "Lil Pancho," the
legendary 1969 Pontiac GTO Ram Air IV race car. Famous for being
the very first GTO to break into the 10-second bracket in NHRA
competition, this historic machine was originally campaigned by
John Angeles, Pete McCarthy, and used as a development test bed for
iconic round-port headers by Jerry Jardine and Doug Thorley.
Meticulously restored to its former glory, the exterior boasts a
flawless black paint job completed in 2018, meticulously
replicating the original "Lil Pancho" door graphics and vintage
sponsorship lettering.
Under the fiberglass hood sits a devastating, custom-built
462-cubic inch OHV V8 Pontiac racing engine with less than 100
miles on it. Built for maximum reliability and explosive power, it
features premium components like an Eagle crankshaft, Howard rods,
Edelbrock aluminum heads, a Comp Cams roller camshaft, and an
Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake topped with a Quadrajet carburetor.
This powerhouse is paired with a performance-built Turbo
Hydra-Matic 400 three-speed automatic transmission outfitted with a
racing-spec shift kit, a Coan converter (3,200-3,500 rpm stall),
and a Derale transmission cooler. It fires up instantly, runs
beautifully, and is fully primed to tear up the drag strip.
The cockpit and chassis are fully optimized for competitive racing
and maximum safety, backed by a recent 2024 NHRA certification for
ETs down to the 8.50s. The interior features an eight-point roll
cage, a Moroso racing seat with a five-point harness, a Hurst
shifter, and a clean dash with essential functional gauges.
Underneath, the car is engineered to launch hard and straight,
utilizing a four-link rear suspension with coilover shocks, a
Wishbone anti-sway bar, and a bulletproof Ford 9-inch rear end with
4.10 gears. Riding on lightweight Bogart racing wheels wrapped in
fresh Goodyear Eagle racing tires with under 100 miles of wear,
this turn-key historic racer is ready to win.
