For Sale: 1947 Packard Clipper Super in Watford, Ontario

Vehicle Description

What a car this is! This 1947 Packard Super Clipper Touring Sedan is ready to cruise just about anywhere, and when we say cruise, we mean it. This is a true American land yacht, with an incredibly roomy interior and a ride that was designed to make long-distance travel a first-class experience. Packard was famous for its smooth-running engines and exceptional build quality. In fact, the company promoted the smoothness of its engines with the famous demonstration of balancing a nickel on its edge while the engine was running. That kind of engineering was a big part of what made Packard special.

Under the hood is Packard’s impressive 356-cubic-inch straight-eight engine. This is the larger Super Clipper powerplant, featuring nine main bearings, hydraulic valve lifters and a smooth L-head design. Factory rated at 165 horsepower and approximately 292 lb-ft of torque, it was built for effortless, quiet cruising rather than high-revving performance. The 356 was a substantial engine for its day and helped establish Packard’s reputation for refined power. This is the kind of engineering that made these cars so enjoyable to travel in.
The interior is clean and retains much of its original character. Everything works with the exception of the clock, which is pretty typical for a car approaching 80 years old. The switches, controls and dashboard details are a wonderful reminder of a time when automobile interiors had their own unique personality. There is something very special about sitting behind the wheel of a Packard like this.
The body and paint present exceptionally well for a 1947 automobile. There are some minor imperfections consistent with its age, but no rust issues. It is a beautiful-looking car that still has the presence to turn heads wherever it goes. Packard’s styling, with its flowing fenders and distinctive postwar Clipper design, has aged remarkably well.
Underneath, this Packard is clean and presents as a good, honest driver rather than a trailer queen. You can enjoy taking it out without feeling that it belongs behind museum ropes, even though it could be in one...It is absolutely gorgeous, but it is also a car meant to be driven and enjoyed.
If you appreciate Packards, big American luxury cars or simply love the experience of cruising in a 1940s classic, this one deserves your attention. With its legendary 356 straight-eight, spacious interior and exceptionally smooth ride, this Packard offers a driving experience that is difficult to duplicate today. Think of it as cruising along on a living room sofa, with nearly 80 years of automotive history around you. Come and see it! Canadian tax is not applicable.
