The 1965 Pontiac GTO continued the success of the model that helped
ignite the American muscle car era. Originally introduced in 1964
as an option package for the Pontiac Tempest, the GTO quickly
established itself as a performance icon. For 1965, Pontiac gave
the GTO updated styling with a more aggressive front end featuring
stacked headlights, along with improvements that further
strengthened its reputation as a formidable muscle car. The
legendary 389 cubic inch V8 remained at the heart of the GTO
lineup, with the available Tri-Power setup utilizing three
two-barrel carburetors to deliver impressive performance. Combined
with its available four-speed manual transmission, the 1965 GTO
offered an exciting driving experience and helped solidify
Pontiac's place in American automotive history.
