The mid 30s brought big changes for Ford and the '36 represented a
major transition period. The styling and engineering were redone to
give them a more streamlined and integrated design. While similar,
the '36 and '37 had some key differences. The freestanding
headlights were sculpted in, a new 2 piece split windshield was
created, the hood now opened from the front edge, and it was the
first year for the full all steel roof. This 1937 5 window coupe is
a beautiful car that was extremely well done. It took 12 years to
build and shows very well. It was very well thought out and the
result is a stunning street rod that runs just as good as it looks.
The body is all very solid and painted in a metallic Orange that
has a great finish and really pops out in the sun. The stainless
and chrome is in great condition and it still wears the stock style
front/rear bumpers. The grill is painted to match the body and the
surrounding trim has a great shine. Swan neck mirrors have been
added on both sides and are adjustable for extra visibility in
addition to the normal style billet rear mirror. It has all new
glass with a 1 piece replacement front windshield but it still has
the split rear windshield. The integrated tear drop front
headlights gave these cars their iconic front look and in back the
taillights with trim have been frenched. The front lights also act
has the turn signals. The wheels were the perfect choice for the
car as the builder opted to go with more stock looking 15 inch
steel wheels that are painted with beauty rings and Ford dog dish
hubcaps.
The hood opens from the inside and underneath is a 383 stroker that
runs great and has plenty of power. It has 9.6 to 1 compression and
was built up with aluminum heads, an Edelbrock Performer RPM
intake, 650cfm Holley 4 barrel carb, finned valve covers, a finned
oil pan and a chrome air cleaner. It sounds great through Hooker
Headers into dual exhaust with chrome tips that exit below the
rear. It runs cool thanks to the aftermarket Walker radiator with
electric pull fan. The entire engine compartment is very worthy of
showing off with a nice smooth recessed firewall and even all of
the Vintage AC/Heat lines are well done. Power moves to the 10 bolt
rear end through the 3 speed automatic transmission and it is set
up for highway driving with the gears likely being around 2.59s. A
Heidts front end has been added with disc brakes which are power
assisted. The power booster is mounted below the car and has an
adjustable proportioning valve.
The interior is all custom and very nicely done. It has power
adjustable bucket seats done in a Tan leather with Beige suede
inserts. It is in excellent condition and has been very well cared
for since new. The custom door panels have armrests, the power
window controls, and a storage pocket. Being a business coupe a
custom rear package tray was made which provides an inset area for
storage and a mounting point for the rear Kenwood speakers. It also
has kick panel speakers and the Kenwood stereo head unit is mounted
in a custom overhead panel. The dash is custom and all nicely
painted. It has wood panel trim in place for the custom white Auto
Meter gauges. LED indicators are in place for turn signals and all
of the controls are nicely labeled. The Vintage AC controls are
mounted in the center of the dash and it has inset vents
throughout. It even has an auxiliary power outlet installed. The
level of detail is top notch and nothing was overlooked. The
painted tilt column features a column shifter and a 40 Ford style
steering wheel. The trunk is nicely upholstered and is where you
will find the relocated battery.
This is a very well built classic street rod that is great to
cruise around in and will also perform well in shows.
