Incredible professional build. 528 cubic inch HEMI V8 with EFI.
4-speed automatic. 4-wheel disc brakes. A/C, power steering, power
windows. Incredible paint and bodywork. Seriously fast, yet
beautiful in every way!?This 1962 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible
is the archetypal iron fist in a silk glove. The purposeful looks
of the Sport Fury have been turned up a notch with incredible paint
and bodywork, while underneath there's a massive HEMI with serious
firepower. We have photos documenting the build showing a
bare-metal respray on an already very clean southern car, and when
you're going to paint it black, well, there are no shortcuts. The
final finish is just spectacular, with ripple-free quarters and a
deep shine that looks like you could swim in it. Nothing was shaved
or modified, so all the beautiful Sport Fury details remain intact,
including the chrome side trim that highlights the dramatic fender
lines and the strip of chrome that reaches from the windshield to
the rail. All the chrome was restored during the build, so it
sparkles like jewelry against the rich black paint. Little details
make this car special, including a '528 HEMI' badge subtly
installed on the hood as well as a little skull inside the original
hood ornament. There might be a few signs of use, but almost
everything could be erased with a good buff and wax. This is still
a jaw-dropping car.?The red and black interior replicates a factory
look with leather seating surfaces. Buckets and a console are
always a cool find in a full-sized cruiser, and the roll bar has
been expertly installed so it doesn't get in the way. Plush carpets
help with noise and heat control, and a custom center console
houses the shifter for the 4-speed automatic transmission. The
dashboard is original, but it now houses a full array of Auto Meter
gauges to watch all the engine's vitals. Everything else was
smoothed and finished, with the secondary controls, AM/FM/CD stereo
head unit, and A/C vents all neatly tucked down low so they don't
attract attention. There's a custom billet wheel on a tilt steering
column, a level of comfort that these cars didn't offer in 1962,
and for convenience, the rear windows are power-operated. There's a
snug-fitting black power convertible top that folds easily and
stows under a matching black boot. The Sport Fury also includes a
positively massive trunk that has been neatly upholstered in black
carpets for a finished look.?The real story, however, is under the
hood, where you'll find 528 cubic inches of HEMI V8. Packed with
all the good stuff, it makes a reported 600 horsepower. The details
include a Callies billet steel crank, Eagle connecting rods, Arias
aluminum pistons, a Crower roller valvetrain, and a set of Stage V
aluminum heads up top. Induction is an Electromotive multi-port
computerized fuel injection system with an 1100 CFM throttle body
and matching crank trigger ignition system with 4 coils. Magnesium
valve covers just look slick and the custom air cleaner assembly
replicates the vintage HEMI look with a modern twist. The block
itself was bathed in Hemi Orange paint, while the rest is basic
black, creating a show-worthy engine bay that you'll be eager to
display. There's a fresh aluminum radiator up front with custom
electric fans controlled by the engine computer, and the
accessories were mounted down low so they'd be out of sight. It's
backed by an A618 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission and a
Ford 9-inch nodular rear end with 3.70 gears inside, so it's quick
around town but pretty easy-going on the highway. A 3-inch custom
exhaust system sounds downright spectacular, yet tucks out of the
way so there are no ground clearance issues. Out back there's a new
stainless gas tank and there's a disc brake at all four corners.
Heavy-duty subframe connectors reinforce the tub, and it sits
exactly right thanks to Hemi torsion bars and Super Stock springs
out back. 15-inch steel wheels and basic hubcaps give it a
predatory look, and they're fitted with staggered Mickey Thompson
radials.?Documentation includes a show board, restoration photos,
and receipts for more than $9000 worth of recent service work.?Cars
like this shine brightest when you look at the details. Yes,
there's a monster of a HEMI under the hood, and that has a lot of
swagger, but it's the little stuff that makes this car truly
special. You can see where the money was spent, and it surely cost
considerably more than the asking price to build. If you're an
early Mopar performance fan, the Sport Fury has to be a favorite,
and this one takes everything that's great about the Industrial
Strength Mopars and turns it up to 11. Call today!Harwood Motors
