Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is proud to present this
2001 Chevrolet Corvette, finished in a distinctive White and Red
exterior over a Red leather interior. As part of Chevrolet's
fifth-generation Corvette lineup, commonly known as the C5, this
example combines recognizable American sports car styling with a
5.7-liter LS1 V8 and a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission.
Under the hood is Chevrolet's 5.7-liter LS1 V8, displacing 346
cubic inches, paired with a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission.
For the 2001 model year, the standard LS1 engine was factory-rated
at 350 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque. The LS1 features an
aluminum engine block and cylinder heads, representing a
significant advancement over earlier small-block Chevrolet engines.
Its overhead-valve design and electronic fuel injection became
defining characteristics of General Motors' LS engine family.
Slide into the Red leather interior, and the Corvette's
driver-oriented cockpit places the controls and instrumentation
within reach. The seating position reflects the car's low-profile
design, while the Tremec T56 manual transmission provides direct
control over gear selection. Air conditioning adds to cabin
comfort, and an AM/FM radio provides entertainment during a
leisurely afternoon drive.
Additional convenience features include cruise control, power
seats, power windows, and power locks. Power steering and power
brakes complement the Corvette's performance-oriented design, while
the combination of V8 power and manual shifting maintains the
traditional sports car experience associated with the Corvette
nameplate.
The exterior features a White and Red color combination that
distinguishes this example from more traditionally finished C5
Corvettes. The fifth-generation body design introduced smoother,
more aerodynamic proportions while retaining recognizable Corvette
characteristics, including retractable headlights and a low, wide
stance.
An interesting piece of Corvette history is that the C5 generation,
introduced for the 1997 model year, marked the debut of the LS1 V8.
The C5 also introduced a rear-mounted transmission transaxle
arrangement, connected to the engine through a torque tube. This
layout helped Chevrolet achieve a more balanced distribution of
weight between the front and rear of the car.
The 2001 model year brought additional refinements to the C5
lineup, including increased output from the LS1 V8. With its 346
CID engine, Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission, distinctive
White and Red exterior, and Red leather interior, this Corvette
represents an important period in the development of Chevrolet's
modern performance cars.
