INTRODUCTION: Pontiac Historical documented, born just as you see
it, and numbers matching throughout! Desirable 455, 4-speed, and
3.42 Safe-T-Track rear end. Stunning Buccaneer Red with white
interior. Just released from a 50 car collection where it spent the
last 14 years.
EXTERIOR: This Trans Am really shows beautifully! The body is
exceptionally clean and straight, with excellent panel fit and
alignment throughout. The rockers are smooth, the bottoms of the
doors are clean, and all the factory spoilers are in excellent
shape. Even the rubber nose up front is in excellent condition and
fits the body very nicely. The iconic Shaker hood scoop remains
uncut and unmodified. It also features the correct sport mirrors.
Repainted in its original Buccaneer Red, the finish is smooth,
deep, and glossy. The paint job is at least 14 years old, as that's
how long the previous collector owned the car, and it has held up
remarkably well. Judging by the lack of typical rock chips along
the lower body, it appears to have seen very little road use since
being painted. Naturally, a close inspection may reveal some minor
imperfections, but overall, the finish is exceptionally smooth and
glossy with a beautiful shine. It also has the iconic optional big
Firebird decal on the hood, all the decals are in excellent shape.
It is equipped with the optional exterior molding package, which
includes bright trim at the rear of the hood, along the tops of the
doors, and around the rain gutters. The weatherstrips and seals
remain soft and pliable, and the rear chrome bumper has a brilliant
shine. It still rides on its correct 15-inch Rally II wheels
wrapped in BFGoodrich tires.
INTERIOR: One of the biggest assets is its gorgeous white interior!
Not only is it highly desirable, but the contrast against the red
is stunning. Overall, it presents itself very nicely, showing the
kind of clean, unabused condition you hope to find. The seat
cushions and the upholstery is in great shape. The upper door
panels are excellent as well. The plastic trim presents very well
with minor aging. The center console looks like new, and of course,
the best part is that 4-speed shifter sticking out of it! The dash
pad is excellent, complemented by the signature machine turned trim
surrounding a full set of Rally gauges. It also retains the
original Formula steering wheel mounted on a tilt column. The
carpeting looks fresh and is protected by red embroidered floor
mats. Looking up, the headliner and sun visors are clean and well
kept. The interior lights work, and it retains a complete set of
original seat belts.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Very authentic, unmolested, and beautifully
preserved! At the heart of this Trans Am is its original VIN #
matching 455, retaining all the correct factory components,
including the intake and exhaust manifolds, valve covers,
carburetor, and more. Sitting proudly on top is the iconic Shaker
hood scoop assembly, which has never been drilled or cut. It's even
complete with the original style snorkel tubes. The engine bay
itself is very well presented, with smooth, clean metal finished in
satin black. The metal surfaces are neatly painted for a nice
presentation. It retains the factory fan shroud and coolant
overflow bottle. Features include power steering and power brakes,
and even the windshield washer squirters are hooked up.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The underside of the trunk lid and the jamb were
painted at the same time as the exterior, giving them a beautiful,
smooth, glossy finish. The weatherstrip and factory decal have been
replaced, and the trunk light works. Inside, the trunk is solid and
neatly presented with the correct mat. It is also complete with the
collapsible spare tire and factory jack assembly.
UNDERSIDE: Exceptionally solid, original, and well preserved! This
Trans Am has clearly been cared for over the years, with
maintenance performed as needed rather than a complete restoration.
The Trans Am came standard with a specially tuned performance
suspension, featuring heavier-duty springs and shocks, front and
rear sway bars, and a larger front sway bar than the standard
Firebird. The suspension appears to have been maintained over the
years, including replacement sway bar bushings, control arm
bushings, and subframe bushings. The rear shocks also look fresh.
It has a clean dual exhaust system with the correct transverse
muffler and slash cut tailpipes exiting beneath the rear bumper.
The fuel tank has been replaced. The brakes are disc in front and
drum in back, with a replacement left front caliper. The emergency
brake assembly is hooked up. Looking up at the motor, it is clean
and finished in Pontiac blue. It retains its original VIN #
matching 4-speed manual transmission. In back is the desirable 3.42
Safe-T-Track positraction rear end. The floors appear to be
original solid metal.
SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and our reputation. Every
vehicle goes through our service department where it is inspected,
test driven, and we address the essentials before offering it for
sale.
CONCLUSION: This is an authentic, well preserved Trans Am with all
the right ingredients! Only 1,420 were built with the 455 and
4-speed combination. These are not cars I come across very often
and I see a lot of cars!
