If you grew up playing with Matchbox, Hotwheels, or any number of
toy cars available back then, there's no doubt you had at least one
emergency vehicle. More likely, you had a number of police cars,
fire engines, and ambulances. Something about the vibrant colors,
the red lights, the seals on the doors that stirs something in us,
to the point that as adults, we're still attracted to the vehicles
of first responders.
For consignment, a 1956 Ford Fairlane Club Sedan showing 5,283
miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption.
This one portrays a fire chief car and a matching accessory trailer
that carries your car show accoutrements.
Exterior
Pull right for this Fairlane, naturally draped in twos stage Fire
Engine Red with contrasting white roof and standard stainless trim
that starts on the fender tops, widens on the door, then bounces
straight back to the tail. Along with it, some obligatory graphics
including a Maltese cross on the doors, strobe stripes under the
trim, station number and Fast Response on the front fenders. On the
roof, the light bar carries a cherry top flanked by a pair of
sirens, while the Fairlane retains its artful hood ornament leading
the way and sculpted into the hood. You'll see double as the Ford's
tail lights are mirrored on the boxy trailer which has stripes and
graphics of its own along with headlights, all on a diamond plate
base and connected to the hitch below the car's chrome bumper.
17-inch American Torque Thrust wheels help get you there in a
hurry! Imperfections include an area of orange peel finish,
inclusions, bubbling and blistering throughout, paint cracks, and
filler dimples.
Interior
After you put out the fire, you'll want to change your clothes so
you don't get soot on the vibrant red and white interior beginning
with the clean door panels that alternate the colors. A sea of
white awaits on the vinyl bucket seats, center console with armrest
and cupholders, and rear bench with pull down armrest, all in great
shape. A white rimmed banjo style steering wheel fronts a stunning
dash, topped by red and backed by a reflective metal trim plate
housing dolphin white faced gauges that might remind you of the
instruments on the side of an actual fire truck! The reflective
band of trim makes its way across the dash under which you'll find
a siren/PA system unit and a Sniper EFI digital screen. A white
knobbed Hurst shifter rises from the bright red carpet and along
with the red headliner, presents in excellent condition. The trunk
is clean and loaded with car show pieces and the space inside the
trailer also has what you'll need to properly show this fun
tribute.
Drivetrain
Sure, the exterior is full of whimsy, but the engine is all
business; a 460ci V8 with an Edelbrock intake, Holley Sniper EFI
system, and clean and polished parts galore. It's mated to a
Toploader 4-speed manual transmission sending power to the Ford 9"
rear. Power brakes and power steering are on board.
Undercarriage
Clean conditions abound underneath where you'll find Flow FX by
FlowMaster mufflers attached to the dual exhaust and power disc
brakes on all four wheels! Suspension consists of coil springs in
front and leaf springs with traction bars in back. Rust free and
dry.
Drive-Ability
The clean interior and all around bright car comes to life with
ease thanks to the fuel injection, and makes its way throughout our
test loop in flying colors; red and white to be specific! Good
power, straight tracking and braking they dreamed about in '56.
Meanwhile, we note the horn, heater blower, and radio are not
working, but all other functions work as they should, including
lights, siren and PA! This could be fun. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
If you think we're alone in our attraction to emergency vehicles,
park this one at your local car show and see what happens! And for
goodness sake, let the kids sit inside it! This car has already
racked up 26 trophies but there are plenty more out there waiting
to be won!
