ASTON MARTIN DB6 CHASSIS NO. DB6/2448/R MOTOR NO. 400/2394 In 1958,
Aston Martin introduced its revolutionary grand touring sports
saloon, the DB4. Its famous successor, the DB5, came roaring onto
the world stage in 1963, and by 1965 the series had reached its
ultimate development with the DB6, which was produced in its
first-series form until 1969. Many enthusiasts consider the DB6 to
be the best of the trio, as it offers the most sublime combination
of gentlemanly luxury, sophisticated street manners, and
straight-line performance. As was customary for Aston Martin,
having evolved from the DB4 Special Series engine first seen in
1961, to continue the motor series with a larger displacement DB6
4-Litre engine fitted with three SU carburetors, high-compression
heads. The Tadek Marek designed and race-proven inline six-cylinder
was perfected to produce 282 horsepower, now fitted with a full
stainless steel exhaust system as well as stainless steel headers
increasing power to a conservative 305 hp. The Aston Martin DB5s
starring role in the James Bond movies d a silver screen icon and
boosted sales to levels Aston Martin had never known before, but
the DB6 proved even more popular. As the authoritative British
magazine, The Motor noted in its 1966 review All the DB series have
been Grand Tourers in their respective way, but the DB6 is a Very
Grand Tourer. Touring of Milans celebrated Superleggera coachwork
design was by now stretched two inches from the preceding DB5 to
accommodate a wheelbase 3.75 inches longer than its
predecessoroffering a more refined ride with room in the back for
actual adult passengers. The addition of its advanced and modern
Kamm-style tail, a move to add stability to the rear over speeds of
125 mph, crowned the DB6s ravishing presence. Like its
predecessors, the DB6 was a car that attracted customers looking
for a certain type of luxury grand tourer. One such gentleman was
John Robert Stockford in Aberdeen, Scotland, first owner of the car
offered here and registered as JRS390. A man of discerning taste,
this Aston Martin was specified in the color of Silver Birch (ICI
M035-2829) with Red Connolly leather interior (VM 3171). The build
sheet further lists these options Motorola Radio D 077783, powered
aerial, heated rear window, chrome wire wheels, Three ear hubs
Fiamm horns, Triple SU careberetters, Avon Turbospeed GT tyres and
a 3.731 rear axle gear ratio fitted with Limited slip differential.
Standard equipment included a ZF 5-speed manual transmission, steel
superstructure with lightweight aluminum body panels, independent
double-wishbone front suspension with coil springs, and Armstrong
Selectaire adjustable rear shock absorbers. DB6/2448/R was given a
complete exterior bare metal restoration with bumpers and other
chrome exterior trim throughout replated to show standard, as well
as a complete interior refurbishment in the original shade of red
in Connolly leather with Wilton wool carpets bound in leather
entrusted to specialists Gassman Automotive of Waynesboro, Virginia
beginning in late 2013 completed in 2014 . RM Sothebys offered the
DB6 in the Monterrey 2015 Auction selling into the UK with new
owner Peter Mark , Saville, Melrose Rd, London. DB6/2448/R was
later sold through Aston Martin Specialist Nicholas Mee & Co of
London England to Mr. Schneider of Wildwood, Mo, entering the US
again. Mr. Schneider engaged the services of Erwin F. Schwartz Ltd.
of Manchester, Mo. for a comprehensive engine valve train and motor
refurbishment, exhaust system replacement in stainless steel, brake
service, upgraded aluminum radiator, and adding a fresh air
conditioning system with installation of a full body seal
replacement. Receipts on file total $109,041 including further
minor general mechanical improvements. Further, more routine
service was performed by Aston Martin St. Louis including rear
shock replacement, oil change, A/C service, spark plug replacement,
and carb tuning. Restoration work both cosmetically and mechanical
exceeds costs of $210,000. An installation of correct new power
window lifts was completed by Vintage Motors of Sarasota in
November 2026. Today, with an odometer reading of 3,260 miles the
car shows in beautiful condition in Aston Martin Oyster Shell Grey
exterior color, while its tidy interior now features fully restored
Connolly leather with Wilton wool carpets in Red as originally
delivered. An exceptionally well driving DB6, with a smooth and
easy shifting transmission will be a prime candidate for various
concourse or rallies and is accompanied by a hammer, tool roll,
restoration receipts and images, a copy of the original Aston
Martin build sheet, as well as a British Motor Industry Heritage
Trust certificate.
