"Thoroughly redesigned from stem to stern, the all new third
generation C/K trucks for 1973 proved to be the longest lived
series in Chevrolet's history and the three box styling has proved
quite popular since. Aside from wheels and hubcaps, there really
wasn't much that was round anywhere in the design other than the
body sides that featured a sculpted character line with a central
plateau panel as well as curved side glass, a first on a GM truck."

For consignment, a 1979 Chevrolet K-10 Bonanza short bed 4x4 pickup
truck showing 45,381 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a
PA title exemption. The Bonanza trim was a limited, year end
promotional trim built upon Scottsdale level of trim and intended
to boost year end sales.

Exterior
Now in two stage application, the period paint scheme alternates
Medium Blue with Classic White and fronted by the classic square
body face; round headlights in square bezels and a robust, eggcrate
grille. In back, the definition of boxy is exhibited by the corner
tail lights, stainless trim plate of the tailgate, and laser
straight chrome bumper. Features include drip rails, a sliding rear
window, and aluminum side steps to get you up to the lifted cab,
perched on 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels with 33x10.5R15LT tires
that have an early 2020 date code. A snap sided tonneau cover hides
the bed with style and the bed itself is clean and painted blue.
Imperfections are few and include some checking on the hood and
some tiny chips on a bed side.
Interior
Gray door cards sit neatly within the body colored steel of the
inner doors and include an integrated small speaker on each, and
both are clean. Inside, black, gray and blue striped cloth covers
the bench seat, framed in blue vinyl and in great shape. Standard
Chevrolet lives up front with the four spoke steering wheel,
brushed aluminum faced dashboard, and neat arrangement of gauges,
vents, A/C panel, and unmodified AM/FM radio, all with a slight
whisper of age but clean overall. We all had dash covers in this
era, and there's a nice blue one here and yes, it hides a good
number of cracks in the dashboard. We also note a chip in the
windshield. Medium pile blue carpet covers the floor and the range
selector is perched on the transmission tunnel.
Drivetrain
Under the hood, a 350ci V8 with a Holley 4-barrel carburetor over
an Edelbrock intake, good for 175 horsepower. It's mated to a TH350
3-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the 12 bolt
rear axle and front 10 bolt axle. Power brakes, power steering, and
air conditioning are noted inside this driver quality engine
bay.
Undercarriage
The good looking underside is generally clean with minimal surface
rust and some residual fluid on the transmission pan. It's equipped
with dual exhaust through stock style mufflers and power disc
brakes in front accompanied by power drums in back. Leaf spring
suspension is utilized front and rear. There are no catalytic
converters present. Rancho RS5000 shocks and beefy components
highlight this stout 4x4.
Drive-Ability
Upon start up, we note a rough idle and as we circle the loop, we
note the truck seems down on power. But it's simple and analog
configuration results in all functions working as they should.
While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were
working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these
functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Production numbers are not available for the Bonanza trim package
in '79, but we can tell you this is the first example to grace our
halls, and it's a nice one! K-10's were ubiquitous back in the day,
especially if you lived in mountainous or rural areas. Today, they
are regarded as desirable collectible vehicles and one only needs
to watch the TV auctions to witness the constant ascension of their
value with each passing year.
