"For Jeep enthusiasts and collectors, the Jeep Scrambler represents
an iconic piece of 4x4 history. As a unique blend of Jeep's rugged
offroad capabilities and practical pickup utility, the Scrambler
holds a special place in the hearts of those who appreciate
classic, durable vehicles. Before the Jeep Scrambler made its
debut, Jeep had a rich history of creating robust pickup trucks.
One of the most notable predecessors was the Jeep Gladiator SJ,
which was introduced in 1962. This model laid the groundwork for
Jeep's future in the pickup market. However, it wasn't until the
1980's that Jeep introduced the Scrambler, a more compact and
versatile truck designed to appeal to a broader audience."

For consignment, a 1983 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler showing 1,182 miles, but
the true miles are unknown. Per our consignor, these are the miles
since the end of the four year restoration which was completed in
2021 and conducted by Wilson's 4x4 in Holly Hill, Florida.
Exterior
It doesn't get much cooler than this, a show quality Scrambler
bathed in two stage Orange Crush paint which doesn't pass on the
bull bar, roll bar, side steps or bumpers. The contrasting black
cab cover is the perfect complement to the 15-inch black wheels
with orange pin striping and 37x14.50R15LT tires with a late 2019
date code. Side mirrors, door handles, and Jeep embossing are all
expressed in black and up front, a Warn winch is perched in front
of the grille and LED headlights. Metalcloak supplies the side
steps and tubular fenders rising high over the tires with a 4
inch Rubicon Express lift kit and a spare tire hangs high off the
back end. The bed is clean and Rhino coated and a few paint chips
are the only imperfections found.
Interior
Smooth black door cards set the palette for the inside, clean and
leading to diamond stitched black leather bucket seats with four
point PRP harnesses in orange. Up front, a three spoke steering
wheel leads to a nice orange dashboard with neatly lined knobs, a
Sniper EFI screen, speakers, and orange faced gauges. Shifters and
selectors rise from the Rhino coated floor with rubber tread mats
protecting and a center console affords storage and the requisite
dual cup holder. A sliding rear window and white ceiling completes
our tour of this immaculate interior.
Drivetrain
Show worthy in every way, pop the latches and reveal the 350ci V8,
polished, painted, and powder coated. It's fueled via a Holley
Sniper EFI system and mated to a TH350 3-speed automatic that
routes power to the Dana 44 Auburn limited slip rear differential
and the Dana 30 up front, each with 4.56 gears. Headers, power
brakes and power steering are on board.
Undercarriage
Absolutely spotless underneath with no evidence of mud, let alone
the road! Here you'll find leaf springs at both ends and power
brakes with discs up front and drums in back. Dual exhaust travels
through FlowMaster mufflers exiting through big chrome tips behind
each rear wheel. There are no catalytic converters on board.
Drive-Ability
We hoist ourselves up into this orange joy ride, and baby her
around the test loop where power is evident under foot and the wide
knobbies make their presence known on the tarmac, along with a
sweet exhaust note. We do find the brakes very weak and in need of
some significant pressure to engage. The reverse lights are on in
park, but not in reverse. Beyond these things, all functions work
perfectly in this impressive Jeep. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
If you're a fan of Dennis Collins show Coffee Walk, you'll know
that of all the Jeeps he's owned and worked on over the decades,
the Scrambler is his favorite. And it's easy to see why; it stands
out from the rest and presents a capable and functional ride and
this one has the double duty of being show worthy at the same
time!
