For Sale: 1969 Pontiac Firebird in Volo, Illinois

Vehicle Description

INTRODUCTION: Pontiac Historical documented, #s matching, rare Firebird 400 convertible! Special-order Goldenrod Yellow, 400, 4-speed, 3.55 Safe-T-Track rear end, and deluxe interior. Starting with a well preserved survivor, it has been nicely freshened up while retaining its original character and authenticity.

EXTERIOR: This is one sharp looking Firebird, especially with the desirable 400 package! The aggressive dual scoop hood gives it some muscle, and mounted right alongside the scoops is the cool factory hood tachometer. The simulated louvers on the front fenders add another sporty touch. Up front, it has the distinctive Endura nose treatment combined with a chrome bumper. The body is clean and straight, finished in its special order Goldenrod Yellow, a striking color that really makes this Firebird stand out! The paint has been polished to a smooth, glossy finish. The front chrome bumper, Pontiac arrowhead emblem, grilles, and headlight bezels all look like new. It even retains a complete set of four T3 headlamps! It has the optional remote driver's mirror, new door handles, the original Pontiac antenna, and a rechromed rear bumper. The black convertible top is in very nice condition and provides a great contrast against the yellow paint. The weatherstrips have been replaced. It still has its original windshield, which does have some stone chips. We can replace it with fresh glass or preserve the original, whichever the next owner prefers. It's rolling on beautifully restored Rally II wheels with the correct lug nuts. Not only are they wrapped in reproduction Wide Oval redline tires for that authentic muscle car look, but they also feature modern radial technology for improved handling and ride quality!

INTERIOR: The deluxe interior is a real treat, loaded with desirable factory options and presenting itself very nicely! It features the upgraded molded door panels, which appear to have been replaced, along with all the window cranks. The deluxe seats are upholstered in the Comfortweave material and are in very nice condition. Rich burled wood trim dresses up the dash and optional center console, complemented by the optional walnut shift knob. It also features the deluxe steering wheel, factory clock, vanity mirror, and an in dash gauge cluster. Down on the floor, the carpet has been replaced and is protected by reproduction Pontiac floor mats. Even the pedals have the deluxe bright trim. Overall, it's a very well appointed interior.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Under the hood is the original VIN-matching 400 factory rated at 330 horsepower! It's an authentic, properly detailed engine compartment with the correct distributor, carburetor, intake and exhaust manifolds, cylinder heads, and other factory components. On top is the optional heavy duty air cleaner, complete with its heat riser snorkel. It's equipped with power steering and power brakes, including a cadmium plated brake booster. It also features heavy duty cooling, and the radiator, shroud, fan, pulleys, and brackets all present themselves very well. The windshield washer squirters are hooked up, the hood has its insulation, and the battery is dressed with spring clamp cables and a Delco battery topper for that factory correct appearance. The metal surfaces are neatly painted and detailed throughout. Overall, this is a very impressive engine compartment that emphasizes authenticity and originality.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The underside of the trunk lid and the jamb were painted along with the car for a clean appearance. Inside is solid metal, and it still retains the factory "shaker cans" in the corners, an original feature unique to convertibles. It also has the original collapsible spare tire and complete jack assembly. The well liner, weatherstrip, and factory decal have all been replaced.

UNDERSIDE: The undercarriage is exceptionally clean, solid, and well sorted, with evidence of extensive mechanical attention. The front and rear suspension components appear to be new, the shocks have been replaced, and the steering looks fresh. The brakes have also been gone through, including front disc brakes, replaced lines, and a functional emergency brake. The fuel tank looks like new, and a neatly installed dual exhaust system completes the package. The floors appear to be rock solid, original metal, neatly painted black for a clean, uniform presentation. Looking up at the motor, it's clean and finished in Pontiac blue, with an upgraded high torque starter. It retains its original VIN-matching Muncie 4-speed transmission, and out back is a desirable 3.55 Safe-T-Track rear end, Pontiac's version of a Posi.

SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and our reputation. Every vehicle goes through our service department where it is inspected, test driven, and we address the essentials before offering it for sale.

CONCLUSION: This is a pretty special Pontiac! Don't confuse it with the clones or non-numbers-matching cars out there. This is a genuine, PHS-documented Firebird 400 with its original drivetrain, rare color, and a fantastic combination of factory features. It's the real deal, and that makes all the difference!
