"The mad scientists at Dodge's SRT laboratory pulled a Samuel L.
Jackson and went all Old Testament with the almighty Hellcat
engine. The standard setup makes "only" 717 horsepower, and the
version in the Redeye pumps out 797 horses. The Super Stock
benefits from an even more powerful version of the Redeye's Hellcat
engine, generating 807 thundering ponies; it also sports dedicated
equipment for drag racing." Car and Driver, Overview
For consignment, a 2022 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat widebody
Jailbreak hardtop with a title verified 28 actual miles. Yes, 28.
According to legend, Dodge called it Jailbreak because they let you
break the normal ordering rules. This one breaks all the rules with
807 horsepower under the hood.
Exterior
Leave it to Mopar to come up with a clever paint name, even for
black as this is Pitch Black. Hellish features include an
aggressive set of nostrils on the matte black hood and the extended
fender flares which accommodate the 305/35ZR20 tires, here with an
early 2022 date code and wrapped around Brass Monkey wheels with
spokes wide enough to highlight the yellow calipers behind. The
Prince of Night would approve of the other monochromatic black
features that include the rear spoiler, tail light panel, rear
valance and extended chin spoiler featuring fluorescent yellow
guards. The red eyed cat itself appears on each side of the car and
a single imperfection in the form of a surface scuff on the bumper
is all you're going to find.
Interior
Simple black and charcoal door panels combine quality plastics with
white stitched leather armrests and a molded cupholder on each
side. From there, we turn our attention to cloth seats with
houndstooth inserts and the embroidered SRT logo on the backs and
none of the features are found in back as this is a rear seat
delete car with a netted package tray in its place. The high tech
control panel starts with a meaty, ergonomic steering wheel with
paddle shifters affixed, and red faced gauges flanking an
electronic screen straight ahead. A big screen in the center
conveys a seemingly endless quantity of information including ride
settings and the functions of AM/FM/CD radio with all of the modern
conveniences including Wi-Fi and satellite connectivity. The stout
shifter is shaped for the hand and rests in a console lined with
actual control buttons and topped with carbon fiber. Black carpet
below, black headliner above, and a trunk finished in gray panels
completes this clean and modern interior, or should we say flight
deck?
Drivetrain
The now epic twin screw supercharger sits atop the 6.2 liter V8,
rated at 807 horsepower backed by a 8HP70 8-speed automatic that
routes power to the rear axle with mechanical limited slip and 3.09
gears. As one would expect, the engine bay is showroom fresh.
Undercarriage
About what you would expect on a new car, and by that we mean
spotless and original. The dual exhaust travels through original
equipment mufflers including resonators all the way to fitted tips
within the valance. Power disc brakes already revealed themselves
through the rims and include Brembo 6-piston fronts while
suspension consists of Macpherson struts in front and coil springs
in back, all part of the widebody competition suspension.
Drive-Ability
They may call it a Hellcat, but it's pure heaven when you get
behind the wheel, knowing you could melt the 305's off the rims
with a tap of the throttle, and smoke all challengers, as long as
they don't have an angry cat on the fender! Still within the break
in period, we baby this one around the loop where it drives, stops,
and handles like a new car and all functions on this fresh machine
operate as they should. We then ease those wide hips through our
garage door to find a spot in the showroom. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
Whether you consider it a sin to let sit and retain low mileage, or
a sin not to drive it often, is a judgement we'll leave up to you,
the eventual new owner of this incredible muscle car. As much as we
like looking at it, it would be a sin for it to be here very long;
this wild cat needs a new hangar.
