1994 Ford F150 XLT Mark III Conversion Short Bed Pickup
"The Ford F-150 Mark III Conversion was a highly popular, third
party luxury package built during the late 1980's and 1990's,
(primarily based on the OBS "Old Body Style" F-150 generations).
Rather than being a factory Ford trim, these trucks were shipped
directly from Ford assembly lines to Mark III Industries in Ocala,
Florida, where they were transformed into high end "luxury
cruisers" before being delivered to select dealerships." Gleaned
from the Davis Drives youtube channel.
For consignment, a 1994 Ford F150 XLT Mark III conversion short bed
pickup truck showing 67,409 miles, but the true miles are unknown
due to a PA title exemption. This is a one owner and garage kept
example with all of the sweet markers of vintage 90's styling.
Exterior
You can still see the F150 beyond the Mark III add ons but there's
enough here to create a unique profile that will cause double takes
wherever you go. Body kits were a big deal in the 90's and this one
includes panel extensions and side steps that make the truck appear
lower to the ground. That's complemented by topside features that
include a visor, tubular bed rails, and a twin nostril hood scoop,
all color matched in Ultra Red two stage paint. Waves and splashes
are plastered to the sides in tan and white with Mark III featuring
prominently on the doors in airbrush fashion. Stripes like this
were wildly common in the 90's, as were the tail light covers,
normally black but here in monochromatic red. The 15-inch wheels
are standard issue for the F150 of the era. The bed wears a black
plastic liner andis in excellent condition. Imperfections are few
and include chips, inclusions, rock chips on rear fender flares,
gouges in the bumper rubber trim.
Interior
Here's where Mark III works some magic by attaching real wood trim
pieces to the standard Charcoal Gray interior beginning on the door
panels that are in great shape with the exception of some
discoloration on the driver's armrest. Inside, La-Z-boy level
comfort is provided by the soft padded leather buckets; the
driver's showing some wear but the passenger's remains spotless.
There's a third seat between them, here in smooth leather, that
doubles as an armrest. Up front, the sculpted wood covers the
dashboard, framing a basic instrument cluster and including a band
of wood across the dash splitting the AM/FM/Cassette radio and A/C
panel below. A wooden center console has been added with cupholders
and storage over gray carpet. The last bit of wood is found framing
the overhead console along with the gray headliner, all in nice
shape.
Drivetrain
Our clean bay houses the ubiquitous 5.0 liter fuel injected V8
rated at 185 horsepower. It's mated to a 4R70W 4-speed automatic
transmission that routes power to the Ford 8.8" rear with 3.55
gears. The engine is known for the distinctive plenum, twin hose
throttle body, and coffee can vacuum reservoir.
Undercarriage
Generally clean, driver quality conditions with typical surface
rust but sound structure. Power brakes are supplied as front disc
and rear drum and suspension consists of radius arm with coil
springs up front and leaf springs in back. The single exhaust
travels through a Cherrybomb muffler before exiting behind the
right rear wheel.
Drive-Ability
Mechanically, this is an F150 and as such, performs with expected
results; decent power, straight tracking, and an ultra comfortable
interior with great visibility. Our tires are from 1999 so we're
baby this thing around the test loop to test functionality. In
that, we note the power rear sliding window is not working, the
radio turns on but the display works intermittently, and the airbag
light is flashing code 51. Beyond these things, all functions
operate as they should on the trustworthy Ford. While Classic Auto
Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of
our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working
at the time of your purchase.
Sure, this would be the star attraction at Radwood but who wouldn't
love to see it at regular car shows too? They represent a unique
era of aftermarket enhancement that also serves as an historic date
stamp of American trends. No one knows how many Mark III Ford
pickups were made, but it's clear they are a rare sight today.
