One of the finest factory-original 1970 Chevrolet Nova SS examples you'll find! MS CLASSIC CARS proudly presents this stunning 1970 Chevrolet Nova Super Sport (SS) powered by its original matching-numbers L48 350 V8 engine and factory-original M20 Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. Certified authentic by renowned Camaro and Chevrolet expert Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance, this exceptional Nova SS combines documented originality, concours-quality restoration, and classic muscle car performance.
Finished in its original Classic White exterior with a black vinyl roof, black body-side molding, and beautifully restored black bucket-seat interior, this 1970 Chevy Nova SS is a highly desirable collector car. The original Trim Tag documents its first-week-of-March 1970 production at the Ypsilanti, Michigan assembly plant. Of the 19,558 Nova SS models produced for 1970, only 13,991 were SS 350 models.
On October 21, 2024, Jerry MacNeish certified this 1970 Chevrolet Nova SS as authentic. The accompanying Data Analysis Report, reproduction window sticker, original dealership emblem from Galles Chevrolet Company in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and extensive restoration photographs help document this car's history and restoration.
The Nova retains its original matching-numbers L48 350 cubic-inch V8 engine, M20 Muncie 4-speed manual transmission, and matching-numbers rear axle with 3.31 positraction gears. These highly desirable factory-original components make this Nova SS particularly appealing to serious Chevrolet collectors and classic muscle car enthusiasts.
The restoration began in spring 2022 and was completed in fall 2024 after a remarkable 26-year period of ownership by Barry Williams. Originally purchased in 1999 as a survivor with approximately 90,000 miles, the car was carefully stored before undergoing a comprehensive, no-expense-spared restoration.
The body was stripped and media blasted, retaining its original sheet metal except for the driver's-side rear quarter panel and taillight panel. The car was refinished in factory-correct Classic White with exceptional paint quality, excellent panel alignment, a new black vinyl roof, restored trim, new glass, and beautifully finished Super Sport exterior details. New 14-inch Super Sport wheels are mounted on Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 tires.
The original black interior was completely restored, featuring reupholstered bucket seats, restored instrumentation, a rebuilt steering column, new carpeting, headliner, door panels, console gauges, and Hurst shifter with white shift knob. HushMat sound insulation, updated wiring, and an Antique Auto Radio with a stereo center-dash speaker complete the cabin. The trunk compartment was refinished in correct-style splatter paint and includes a matching spare tire and jack tools.
Under the hood is the original matching-numbers Chevrolet L48 350 V8, factory rated at 300 horsepower. Professionally rebuilt by NAT'S Engine in Seekonk, Massachusetts, the engine features a COMP roller camshaft, Scat crankshaft and connecting rods, forged Auto Tech pistons, COMP roller-tip rockers, and professionally rebuilt cylinder heads with stainless-steel valves.
Dyno testing produced an impressive 350 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, with the dyno sheet included. Factory-correct components include the Rochester four-barrel carburetor, GM finned aluminum valve covers, chrome air cleaner, correctly numbered Delco distributor, date-coded alternator, and Delco starter. A period-correct Chicago Radiator Company radiator and Gardner Concours Show Package dual exhaust system complete the highly detailed engine compartment.
Power is delivered through the original matching-numbers M20 Muncie 4-speed manual transmission, professionally rebuilt by George's Automotive in Coventry, Rhode Island. The original matching-numbers rear axle was also professionally rebuilt, retaining its 3.31 positraction gearing.
The undercarriage received the same attention to detail as the rest of the car. The factory-white underside was refinished for durability, while the subframe was media blasted and powder coated in the correct shade of black. Suspension components, steering linkage, control arms, bushings, ball joints, and related hardware were restored or replaced. The braking system features restored components, correct Delco parts, and renewed brake lines and hoses. A new fuel tank, original-equipment-style fuel lines, sending unit, and correct AC Delco fuel pump complete the fuel system restoration.
