"To promote the new model, Ford secured advertising licensing
rights from cartoonist Charles Schulz. The Ford advertising staff
wanted to use the "Peanuts" characters in a variety of print ads
and commercials. Schulz agreed to work with Ford on the Falcon
campaign. The Peanuts characters had already been enlisted to sell
everything from breakfast cereals to snack cakes, from insurance
and to photographic film. Between 1960 to 1965, Ford paid an annual
licensing fee for exclusive rights to have the Peanuts gang speak
about the new features of the Ford Falcon. The popular new Falcon
models were powered by a six cylinder engine and priced at $1,975."

For consignment, a 1964 Ford Falcon Futura convertible showing
32,221 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title
exemption. This car was assembled in Lorain, Ohio, delivered to the
Philadelphia District Sales Office, and found by our consignor in
the Lehigh Valley.
Exterior
A rocket inspired spear tracks the side of the car in Wimbledon
White trimmed by stainless and enhanced by some back end chevron
shaped ornamentation, all a nice complement to the white canvas
soft top. The rest of the car wears single state Skylight Blue, an
appropriate paint name for a convertible. Simple features such as
single headlights and an artful but uncomplicated grille set the
trends for the time while careful attention is given to Ford's
ubiquitous round tail lights, stamped stainless latch panel trim,
and laser straight chrome bumper out back. 14-inch wheels carry
proper covers and 185/70R14 tires with an early 2023 date code.
Fender Falcon call outs share in the artful yet simple 60's style.
Imperfections here include some pitted and oxidized metal trim,
stains and inclusions in the paint, chips throughout, surface rust
including spots on the bumper, a missing "C" from the decklid,
remnant hole from previous side mirror, and bubbling in numerous
places.
Interior
Heavy patina greets us on the blue driver's door panel with fading,
tears, and general age, evident but less prominent on the passenger
door. Two tone blue vinyl covers the split bench in front and the
rear bench showing age with again the most evident on the driver's
seat. The steering wheel wears an aftermarket cover and fronts the
vintage dashboard, horizontal speedometer and aged ivory trim.
Condition is consistent across the dash which holds an AM radio
with an Audiovox unit and backup camera screen under the dash not
far from the original vent levers. Blue carpet covers the floor and
a remnant carpet piece covers the trunk floor through which a clean
gas tank is noted.
Drivetrain
Patina laden, driver quality andoriginal looking is the 170ci
inline six under the hood. It has a 1-barrel carburetor and is
rated at 101 horsepower. It's mated to a Ford-O-Matic 2-speed
automatic transmission that routes power to the Ford 7.25" rear
with 3.50 gears.
Undercarriage
Other than the new gas tank, we're looking at driver quality
conditions underneath as well, with surface rust, oil present, rust
on the inner rocker and body brace, advanced surface rust on the
door bottoms, and some frame patchwork above a rear wheel. A single
exhaust runs through a stock style muffler and drum brakes, which
according to our consignor have rebuilt wheel cylinders and
upgraded master, are on all four wheels. Suspension consists of
coil springs in front and leaf springs in back.
Drive-Ability
The straight six starts, idles and runs well and while you won't
win any drag races with it as is, it will undoubtedly get you to
the car show and back. Fresh tires mean straight tracking and good
handling and the brakes work on demand. What's not working includes
the heater blower, tail lights, brake lights, and reverse lights.
All other functions on this survivor operate as they should. While
Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at

will be working at the time of your purchase.
The Futura was an upgraded trim level and with this example, you
have a diamond in the rough with good bones and a popular body
style that saw just over 300,000 produced in 1964. The sky's the
limit with this Skylight Blue convertible, and you can keep its
original color or envision a rocket of a different hue!
