This 1996 Chevrolet C1500 Restomod takes the clean, unmistakable
styling of Chevrolet's OBS-era pickup and combines it with modern
performance, chassis engineering, and a highly detailed custom
presentation. Built around a Roadster Shop SPEC Slammed chassis,
this regular-cab short-bed has the low, aggressive stance of a
purpose-built street truck while retaining a refined, finished
appearance throughout.
Power comes from a modern Gen V LT1 V8 backed by a 10-speed
automatic transmission. This combination gives the truck modern
fuel-injected performance and a broad range of gearing in a classic
pickup platform. The engine installation is presented in a smoothed
and detailed engine compartment, highlighted by metallic
bronze-finished intake and engine components against satin-black
inner panels.
The Roadster Shop chassis provides the foundation for the truck's
dramatically lowered stance and modernized road manners. Braking is
handled by a substantial 16-inch Wilwood system visible behind the
open-spoke wheels. The truck rides on staggered 20-inch 3030
Autosport wheels finished in a dark bronze tone with black accents.
Pirelli P Zero tires measure 235/35ZR20 at the front and a massive
335/30ZR20 at the rear, giving the truck a planted,
performance-oriented appearance.
The exterior is finished in deep gloss black with contrasting gray
lower-body trim. The original OBS body lines remain recognizable,
but the overall presentation is much more refined and aggressive. A
black mesh grille, smooth body-color front bumper, extended front
air dam, carbon-fiber mirror housings, and tucked wheel fitment
complete the understated street-truck appearance.
A hard tonneau cover keeps the bed profile clean and opens with
gas-strut assistance. Beneath it, the bed has been fully finished
in matching gloss black, including the floor and wheel housings,
creating a show-quality appearance rather than leaving the cargo
area as an afterthought.
Inside, the custom gray interior offers a comfortable and
contemporary contrast to the black exterior. The leather bucket
seats feature sculpted bolsters and contrasting textured center
inserts. A matching center console provides storage and an
integrated armrest, while the dashboard retains its familiar OBS
layout.
The driver faces a Dakota Digital RTX instrument cluster that
provides modern electronic operation while preserving a
period-inspired appearance. The display currently shows
approximately 905 miles, understood to represent mileage
accumulated since completion of the build. Additional interior
details include a custom carbon-fiber steering wheel with a red
center marker, carbon-fiber dashboard accents, a finished gray
headliner, factory-style HVAC controls, and a cleanly integrated
audio system.
An extensive build-photo binder accompanies the truck and documents
the chassis, suspension, braking system, rear axle, engine,
transmission, and assembly process. This documentation adds
meaningful value and provides a visual record of the work performed
beneath the finished exterior.
With its Roadster Shop SPEC Slammed chassis, Gen V LT1 power,
10-speed automatic transmission, oversized Wilwood brakes, wide
rear tire package, custom interior, and exceptionally clean
presentation, this 1996 Chevrolet C1500 is a serious high-end
restomod built to make an impression both parked and on the
road.
