This is a Series 25 Torpedo on the 119-inch wheelbase, finished in
black over a clean grey interior. The VIN decodes as a Fisher body
number 19 four-door sedan in D-for-Deluxe trim, and the original
paint and trim codes check out against the factory black. The block
stamping reads P6PA 21956.
Power comes from the 239 cubic inch L-head flathead six, rated at
90 horsepower and known for smooth, durable running. It is paired
with the Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic, which Pontiac offered
for the first time in 1948 as a pricey option. The column quadrant
reads N DR LR. On the road it cruises comfortably at 50 to 55
mph.
Deluxe equipment includes stainless rocker trim, belt molding, rear
fender stone guards, chrome Silver Streak hood badges and fender
script. Inside you get a wood grain dash, ivory steering wheel,
Chief horn button, push-button radio with power antenna, clock,
external sun visor, working heater and cowl vent. Wide whitewalls
with redline caps finish it off. The ignition switch sits high on
the firewall with a round black start button.
Notes: the vacuum-operated rear wiper is present but not moving and
likely needs vacuum line work. The left fog lamp is dim, probably a
bulb issue.
