At first glance, the Ferrari 512 TR looks strikingly similar to its
predecessor, the Testarossa, and one could be forgiven for
believing there is little difference between the two. However,
closer inspection reveals a host of subtle styling revisions,
artfully executed by Pininfarina to update the car for the
mid-1990s without sacrificing any of the original visual punch.
Work included redesigned C-pillars, engine lid, and bumpers, which
housed new driving lights and brake-cooling ducts at the front.
More prominent were the TR's new 18-inch alloy wheels, with slim
spokes for a lower and lighter overall appearance. Inside, new
seats and instrument housings added to the list of changes over the
outgoing Testarossa, but these were minor compared to what was
going on beneath the skin.
The 512 TR's mid-mounted twelve-cylinder engine was subject to a
significant redesign to include higher compression (up from 8.7:1
to 10.0:1), Nikasil-coated aluminum cylinder liners, larger intake
valves, revised cams, more efficient intake and exhaust, and new
electronics, boosting output from 380 horsepower to 421 horsepower.
To lower the center of gravity, the engine was also mounted about
an inch lower in the chassis, now with increased rigidity,
larger-diameter cross-drilled disc brakes, and lighter suspension
components. These improvements made a significant difference not
only in its subjective handling feel, but also on the short Fiorano
test track where the 512 TR was a full second faster than the
outgoing Testarossa.
Finished in the rarely seen combination of Nero over Nero leather,
this stunning 1993 512 TR shows just 18,202 kilometers
(approximately 11,310 miles) recorded at the time of cataloging and
is presented in superb condition. Delivered new via Maranello
Sports Cars of Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada, this car benefits from
consistent service history, as shown on the accompanying CARFAX
Vehicle History Report. Highlights of the service history include a
major service by Ferrari of Vancouver in 2015 which included an
extensive chassis overhaul encompassing new upper and lower control
arm bushings, shock bushings, sway bar bushings, and ball joints.
More recently, a fresh engine-out timing belt service was performed
by Ferrari specialist Alex Traverso of Scottsdale, Arizona,
completed in October 2026.
As offered, this 512 TR is in superb order and features an updated
Clarion audio head unit and Tubi Style exhaust system to best enjoy
the symphony of your choosing. It is furnished with the factory
tool kit and tire inflator in the leather case, a VIN-matched
warranty booklet, and owner's manual set in the original Schedoni
leather wallet.
When new, the great Phil Hill, writing for Road & Track, declared
the 512 TR was "... three-quarters of the F40 with all the
conveniences of a modern GT." Blurring the lines between supercar
and grand tourer, this gorgeous and fully serviced 512 TR is a
visually arresting, breathtakingly quick, and highly capable grand
tourer, ready to devour the miles at an astonishing rate.
