First appearing on Penske-operated SCCA Trans Am Camaros in the
mid-1960s, Sunoco Blue most famously graced Roger Penske's 911
Carrera RSRs and their all-conquering twin-turbocharged 1,500
horsepower 917/30 Can-Am car in 1973. It was the fearsome 917 that
became the first Porsche to receive the "Widowmaker" moniker.
Naturally such a special hue with its race-derived origins was the
perfect fit for Porsche's Paint to Sample program, which lets
buyers order a factory-approved shade straight from the company's
racing and road-car past. Though widely advertised, the PTS program
was limited to a small group of VIPs, many of them 918 Spyder
Circle members, for Porsche's most special models.
Few cars illustrate that exclusivity better than the 911 GT2 RS,
whose 2018 and 2019 allocations were likewise reserved for
Porsche's best clients. Launched at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of
Speed, the 2018 911 GT2 RS represents the apex of the 991.2
generation. Even after nine years, the facts and figures
surrounding the 911 GT2 RS remain staggering: 691 horsepower, 553
lb-ft of torque, zero to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds, and a top track
speed of 211 mph. With such performance channeled through the rear
wheels, it's no wonder so many GT2 RS door sills were emblazoned
with Widowmaker or Witwenmacher and why allocations for the car
were so fiercely prized.
What many enthusiasts may not realize is just how rare it is to
find a U.S.-market GT2 RS specified with the trifecta of Paint to
Sample, the Weissach Package, and the lightweight magnesium wheel
option. Faced with unprecedented demand and production constraints
affecting both Paint to Sample requests and the magnesium wheel
production, Porsche Cars North America required even its 918 Spyder
Circle and VIP clients to choose between the two. As a result, only
a select handful of cars left the factory with all three options-a
distinction this example proudly enjoys.
Finished in Paint to Sample Sunoco Blue made famous by Roger
Penske's all-conquering 917/30 Can-Am racers, this example left
Stuttgart in February 2019 optioned with an impressive list that,
yes, includes the Weissach Package and magnesium wheels. Additional
options selected and the time of ordering include extended range
fuel tank, Front Axle Lift System, Black leather steering wheel and
PDK shifter, and BOSE Surround Sound System. Porsche Exclusive
Manufaktur options include painted air vent surrounds with
leather-covered vent slats, personalized door sill guards, LED
headlights in Black with PDLS, instrument dials in Guards Red, and
more with a full accounting available in the digital build
sheet.
The GT2 RS has remained with its original owner within the Driven
Eclectic Collection from new and is offered with a clean CARFAX
Vehicle History Report that confirms regular servicing at Porsche
Austin from its PDI in-service at just 10 miles to its most recent
visit in July 2026 at just 2,958 miles. Offered in excellent
condition commensurate with the low total of 3,065 miles at the
time of cataloging, this modern Widowmaker offers those interested
in special colors and exceptional performance a collectible that
delivers both, wearing the livery of a Can-Am legend on the chassis
of a modern-day icon.
