Unveiled at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show, the 360 Challenge Stradale
brought the lessons of Ferrari's one-make Challenge series to the
road, shedding 240 pounds relative to the 360 Modena while
extracting 420 horsepower from its 3.6-liter V8. It remains highly
coveted as the ultimate expression of the 360 and a foundational
model in the succession of special-series V8 berlinettas that
followed from Maranello.
This U.S.-delivery Challenge Stradale, chassis number 139052, was
specified in an understated combination that sets it apart from the
many striped examples. It wears unadorned Nero paintwork without
the tri-color racing stripe over Rosso/Nero Alcantara upholstery
with red stitching. Further equipment includes red brake calipers,
a radio with a CD player and Hi-Fi, and large-size racing seats.
Nero is among the scarcer Challenge Stradale colors, with just 49
examples recorded by the independent ChallengeStradale Registry,
and this car's unstriped flanks make it even scarcer still.
Delivered through Ferrari of Beverly Hills, the car was first
titled in California in November 2004. A clean CARFAX Vehicle
History Report indicates that it then remained in Southern
California for some 22 years, held by the original owner until
2017, then in the hands of the most recent owner until 2026.
Service records are on file for maintenance carried out during this
ownership.
After the consignor acquired the Ferrari in 2026, it went to
F&M Motorsport in Los Angeles that spring for a comprehensive
major service. The work included new timing belts and tensioner
bearings, accessory belts, filters, and fluids, along with a
valve-cover reseal and replacement of both fuel pumps and the
left-hand float valve, at a cost of more than $15,000. Cosmetic
freshening followed at Exclusive Restoration in Carson. There, an
aged clear bra was removed, the front bumper, hood, and rocker
panels were refinished, and the body received a full paint
correction. The car was then selected for display at The Quail, A
Motorsports Gathering in August 2026.
More recently, the Challenge Stradale received a complete "sticky
button" interior service and full-body paint protection film by
Young Film & Finish. It also received four new Pirelli P Zero tires
with alignment and a cryogenic cleaning of the engine compartment.
Showing 15,439 miles at the time of cataloging, it is offered with
its books, window sticker, and tool kit.
At a time when bespoke Tailor Made commissions can realize almost
any vision, the quiet confidence of a black, unstriped Challenge
Stradale has never been more fashionable. For the collector drawn
to that sensibility, this well-documented, unstriped Nero example
of Ferrari's lightweight V8 benchmark represents the Challenge
Stradale in its most sophisticated form.
