The 1980s undoubtedly delivered a wealth of memorable grand touring
supercars. But it was Ferrari that best captured the decade's
imagination with the Testarossa. More than a supercar, the
Testarossa became a pop culture icon, appearing on television, in
arcade games, in music videos, on the bedroom walls of countless
budding petrolheads, and of course, in the driveways of the
fortunate few.
Styled by Pininfarina, the Testarossa was a bold reinvention of the
512 Berlinetta Boxer. To solve chronic cabin heat issues, Ferrari
moved the radiators to the sides of the mid-mounted 4.9-liter,
180-degree twelve engine. Massive side intakes, veiled by
horizontal strakes, both met regulatory requirements and defined
the car's aesthetic. The result was an instantly recognizable
silhouette that was simultaneously functional and extravagant. It
epitomized 1980s excess while securing the Testarossa's legacy as
one of Ferrari's most memorable creations.
Unveiled at the Lido Night-Club on the Champs-lysees in Paris,
amid the glitz and festivity of the Parisian nightlife in 1984, the
Testarossa was originally fitted with a single exterior mirror,
earning its early models the nickname "Monospecchio," as well as a
unique central wheel bolt-the "Monodado"-for securing the wheels.
These early cars are revered for their purity and direct lineage to
the original show car.
Finished in classic Rosso Corsa over a lush black leather interior,
this 1986 Testarossa is a desirable Monospecchio/Monodado car with
just 17,885 miles from new recorded at the time of cataloging. The
accompanying service booklet reveals it was first delivered in July
1986 to Mr. Bernard Pasch of Rolling Hills, California via the
legendary Ferrari dealer Hollywood Sport Cars. The CARFAX report
indicates it was in New Jersey by 1989, while service history shows
it was most recently in the care of a New Jersey-based enthusiast
who kept meticulous maintenance records. Highlights of the file
include regular annual oil changes, new tires in 2020, and a major
engine-out timing belt service completed in March 2026 at 17,097
miles, performed by marque specialists Auto Elite Corporation of
Tenafly, New Jersey.
Thanks to that fastidious care, this desirable early Testarossa
remains in excellent condition throughout, including the
beautifully preserved black leather interior. It is furnished with
the original owner's manuals and VIN-matched warranty book in the
Schedoni wallet, a tool roll, jack bag, wheel nut tool, safety
triangles, and a factory car cover.
This superb early Testarossa represents an outstanding opportunity
to finally turn your childhood dreams into reality and put one of
Ferrari's more renowned and widely beloved modern-era grand tourers
in your garage.
