Few cars are as closely associated with a single character as the
black Dodge Charger R/T driven by Dominic Toretto. Introduced in
2001's The Fast and the Furious as the 900-horsepower car that
famously beat a speeding train to a railroad crossing in the film's
climax, the Charger has returned in nearly every chapter since,
rebuilt, wrecked, and reborn across more than two decades of the
beloved franchise. Because the films demand punishing stunt work,
each production has required multiple examples, and those that
survive are sought after by collectors of both muscle cars and film
history.
This Charger was built for and used during production of F9: The
Fast Saga (2021) and Fast X (2023). It is offered with a historic
title that names Universal City Studios LLC. as the owner. The car
pairs a gloss-black finish, R/T door badging, and the chromed
horizontal grille trim of the 1970 model with the franchise's
trademark polished BDS supercharger, its triple-inlet scoop rising
through an opening in the pinned hood. Though non-functional, the
scoop is operated from a button in the cabin. Inside, a full roll
cage is welded into the body, the factory dashboard has been
replaced by a riveted aluminum panel carrying four round gauges,
and a fabricated aluminum transmission tunnel bears the houses a
ratchet-style shifter.words "Jump Car" written by hand-a hint at
the role this Charger may have played on set. Low-back bucket seats
with harnesses, a three-spoke steering wheel, and riveted door
panels with window cranks complete the stripped interior.
The constant in a saga that has spanned more than two decades and
ten main films, Toretto's black Charger is the car audiences
associate with the franchise before any other, and the one that
returns no matter how many times it is seemingly destroyed. With
the series now approaching its final installment, cars built for
and used in its production are only becoming more sought after.
This example pairs the franchise's most recognizable silhouette
with the raw, purpose-built performance of a genuine hot rod. For
collectors of American muscle, Hollywood memorabilia, or both, it
offers something few cars can, a direct connection to one of the
highest-grossing film franchises of all time.
