This is a beautiful 1966 Ford Thunderbird Convertible powered by
the highly desirable Z-code 390 4-barrel V8. The 390 runs and
drives excellent, the air conditioning works, and the power
convertible top works great and is in excellent condition. The car
currently shows 75,256 miles and comes with a clean title. The
Z-code 390 Thunderbird Special V8 was factory rated at 315
horsepower and 427 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the most
desirable engine configurations available in the 1966
Thunderbird.
One of the biggest highlights of this Thunderbird is the nearly
$30,000 in documented service, repairs, maintenance and tires
represented by the extensive paperwork that accompanies the car.
This is not just a car with a few recent receipts - the records
show substantial mechanical work performed over the last several
years.
A July 2024 Service Street invoice alone totaled $11,076.23 and
documents extensive work at 73,642 miles, including upper and lower
ball joints, stabilizer links, control-arm bushings, front wheel
bearings and seals, rear brake cylinders and hardware, brake fluid
service, differential service, rear shocks, a 4-wheel alignment,
temperature sensor, cooling-system service, transmission pan reseal
and transmission service, intake/plenum gaskets, thermostat and
housing gasket, radiator hose, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs and
wires, distributor cap and rotor, ignition coil, a 600 CFM
Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, fuel system components, vacuum
tubing, battery and electrical work, oil/filter service and washer
system repairs.
Additional documentation shows major rear-end and brake-system
work, including a replacement carrier, upgraded 31-spline axle
shafts, new wheel bearings and axle seals, new wheel studs, new
valve covers and gaskets, motor mounts, a smaller brake booster,
upgraded dual master cylinder, new proportioning valve and brake
lines, brake bleeding, carburetor rebuilding and oil service. That
work alone is documented at $3,645.
The exhaust system was also serviced with replacement mufflers,
tail pipes, hangers and related exhaust work, with a documented
total of $957.36.
Additional Pro Auto Care records document a replacement power
steering pump and power steering service, radiator and
cooling-system work, fuel sending unit replacement, spark plug and
wire work, electric choke installation, rear main seal replacement,
oil pan gasket work, battery hold-down work, and other diagnostics
and maintenance.
In May 2026, the driver's-side rear window motor and gear were
replaced, the window tracks were serviced, and a larger Group 48
battery was installed. Five new 215/70R15 tires were also purchased
in December 2024.
