A beautiful car we sold a few years ago, has seen little use, and now back for sale.
A 1980 B that came to us with excellent rust free bodywork/floor, underwent a comprehensive chrome bumper conversion (and we eliminated the side lights), was lowered to pre 1975 ride height (including a front end rebuild), fitted with headers and a 32/36 DGV Weber carb, has 14" center lock wire wheels, AND the best factory options.....perfect working overdrive for a 5th gear and wire wheels.
All new interior with leather seats, new top, new full tonneau, all new chrome, Mk I grille, burl wood dash, expensive digital stereo, and carpeted trunk. Dash and console dyed to match the interior, wood steering wheel, the idea was to create the best MGB model never sold in the USA.
The later cars, such as this example, were far superior to earlier MGBs....larger radiator with twin electric cooling fans, servo assist disc brakes, superior electrical system, better gauges, front and rear sway bars, nicer dash, on and on. Alas, due to EPA and DOT requirements (at the top and now, years later, no longer applicable), they were forced to have their ride height raised, to be fitted with a single Stromberg carb, and those ugly rubber bumpers.
However, we were starting with such an excellent car and fitted with the two most desirable factory options (overdrive and wire wheels), we opted to create an excellent example. And we did. Note the two contemporary descriptions of an excellent car....'mirror image paint and laser straight bodywork.'
Both here.
With quick, light steering, excellent handling and ride, lively acceleration, effective power disc brakes, and the electrically operated overdrive (effectively a 5th gear), the car is a dream on the road. And genuinely feels like a new car.
(sorry for the dirty trunk carpets, we were in a rush to get photos on our site and yes, they will be cleaned)
