Motors Corner presents this 1970 AMC AMX, an increasingly collectible American muscle car and the final year of production for the two-seat AMX.
This example was sold new by Andy Anders Rambler Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Finished in Golden Lime Metallic over black vinyl upholstery, this AMX is powered by its original 360ci V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission.
The car features Magnum 500-style wheels, a Hurst shifter, woodgrain interior trim, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel.
This AMX is offered with its original manufacturer’s literature and service records. The car is stock.
Interior:
The interior presents well, with the factory instrumentation and controls well preserved throughout. The seats and carpet have been refurbished to original specifications, preserving the atmosphere AMC intended over five decades ago.
Exterior:
The car left the factory finished in Golden Lime Metallic (90A).
The bodywork retains its original character. Paint thickness measurements suggest that the paint may be original.
A few dents and imperfections are present, consistent with a survivor that has been preserved rather than fully restored. These details reflect the car’s history and contribute to its authentic, unrestored appearance. The car is fitted with four new Hankook tires.
Mechanical condition:
Powered by its original 360ci V8, which starts readily, and paired with what the original brochure described as an “all-synchro 4-on-the-floor with short-throw Hurst linkage,” this example is a remarkably honest survivor that retains its original character.
Prior to the sale, the car received a comprehensive mechanical service, including routine maintenance, a rebuild of the OEM carburetor, spark plug replacement, and brake bleeding.
We performed a compression test on all eight cylinders, with readings ranging from 170 to 180 psi. The results are consistent across all cylinders, with a maximum spread of 10 psi.
Photos documenting the test are available upon request.
With only 836 examples produced with the 360 V8 and manual transmission in 1970, the final-year AMX has become a sought-after model among AMC collectors.
Unlike many fully restored or heavily modified muscle cars, this AMX remains a genuine survivor, retaining the authenticity and patina that collectors increasingly value.
