For Sale: 1962 Austin-Healey BT7 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

 1962 Austin Healey 3000 BT7 Roadster  50-year Ownership

This highly-modified 2960cc sportster has had the same owner for 50 years.  In 2003-2004, it received an open-checkbook restoration at which time the drivetrain & suspension was equipped with everything available from Dennis Welch Performance Enterprises.  It sports triple Weber carburators, five-speed transmission, side exhausts, high-ratio steering box, and stiffened suspension.   This model is quite rare: 1962 was the only year triple carburators were fitted on the 3000 model.  Bonnet (hood) is louvered to prevent fuel vaporization in hot weather.  Fenders are fiberglass.  Low-profile Dunlop tires are mounted on 15” minilite wheels.

This car has never been driven in inclement weather and always stored in controlled environments.   The Owner’s wife has allowed him to collect all the cars he wants over the years, provided he does not race them.  Consequently, it has not seen any competitive track time.  It exhibits the throaty roar of Allard’s V8 engines from that era.

The French-stitched,  padded roll bar is bolted onto the frame for easy removal.  Note- being a four-point unit, it does not meet current SCCA requirements.  It has a custom tonneau cover and fiberglass hard top that easily clears the roll bar.

The car had been driven approximately 65,000 miles before being subjected to its nut-and-bolt restoration in 2003-2004.  At that time all the gauges were rebuilt, and odometer was reset to zero.   Since that time, it’s been driven less than 4,000 miles.

The Owner has expended approximately $30,000  to return it to factory-fresh condition for this sale.   Receipts and the engine’s dynamometer torque curve are included here.  It is street legal, currently registered as a Classic Car in Pennsylvania, USA.  Photographs of both the full restoration and this recent refresh are also included here.  There is also a digital daily log of the latter’s subcontracted work, parts and labor.  If desired, the entire file from the 2003-2004 restoration can be delivered with the car in hardcopy form.

The original 60-spoke wire wheels (refurbished) and front bumper (re-chromed) are available if Buyer would like to return car to a more “stock” appearance.  This car truly commands attention whether in motion or parked.    It garnered numerous trophies at shows along with his wife’s 1962 BN7 over the years.  It will make an excellent club autocross and/or rally entrant.

Included in the sale is a set of new side curtains (never installed), trunk-size trolly jack, owner’s manual,  shop manual, documentation for all the performance equipment, and the engine restorer’s (Leydon Restorations, Lahaska, PA) daily log.  A pre-purchase inspection  was performed by Proper Noise,  a shop experienced with high-end concours restorations (Pebble Beach entries last two years).  All  corrections were made and documented on their Invoice #3254 dated July 17, 2025.   They also performed a majority of the mechanical refresh.  British Restoration Corporation of Philadelphia handled the cosmetics.
