For Sale: 1971 Oldsmobile 442 in Palmer, Massachusetts

Vehicle Description

1971 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible - Very RARE example of Oldsmobile's final year for the iconic "442" nameplate as a standalone model with a stellar combination of big-block power and open-air cruising! 1 of only 1,304 convertibles built for the model year and 1 of only 112 442's produced in this attractive first-year color! Fully restored in the late 90's but since very well maintained and lovingly cared for by previous owner for nearly 30 years until summer of 2026! TRUE "344-code" car that is appropriately powered by it's numbers-matching drivetrain including the powerhouse 455ci "Rocket-V8" with all correct castings, VIN stamp and factory heavy-duty components including the block, heads, manifolds, carb and exhaust. The TH-400 automatic transmission also shows the original ID tag with correct date-codes and mated to a factory performance 3.42 10-bolt posi-rear. Factory equipped with front power disc brakes, power steering, dual trumpet exhaust, and the heavy-duty "FE2" rallye suspension package. Car runs strong and has just received a healthy mechanical tune-up. Overall, inside and out, the car still looks show quality with the exception of a couple small paint blemishes seen in pics on rear quarter and hood. Exterior is finished in the  trim-tag correct and first year offering of the code-62 "BitterSweet Mist Metallic" which is a vivid iridescent shade of burnt orange with correct white stripe kit and a white power convertible top. Body is very straight with nice gaps, excellent chrome and near-perfect glass. Original steel hood with decorative trim louvers give a touch of class making this a real elegant street sleeper. Car rides nice and really looks the part on color-matched 15" Super Stock III wheels wrapped in BFG white letter radial tires. Interior contrasts beautifully in parchment white tones throughout with factory vinyl bucket seats and center console. Nicely equipped with the desireable Tic-Toc-Tach Rallye gauge package, cushioned grip sport steering wheel, floor-mounted shifter, deluxe woodgrain trim, 8-track and working heat/defrost. All lights, gauges and top work as they should as well as the updated AM/FM stereo system. Engine bay is nicely detailed along with the trunk area including correct rubber mat and jack setup with spare tire. Underside is extremely solid and free of any heavy undercoating to disguise concerning issues. These cars really marked the end of an era for un-filtered and un-restricted performance within not only the GM platform but manufacturers across the board. Gone would be the times of highlighted horsepower with the soon to come lowered compression and regulated emissions to chokehold american muscle. In a world ruled by chevelle's, GTO's and Mopar, dare to be different and drive like a gentleman. Here is your chance to get behind the wheel of a collector's piece that put elegance first but could still keep up!
