"Smarter than ever, the fashionable new Chevy II for 1965. Smart,
new styling refinement, outstanding new engine line up, six kinds
of power, including a V8 now standard in a full complement of
models. Many new quality features have been added making the new
'65 an even greater value buy than before. But the sensile design
that has made Chevy II so popular with so many people remains."
From the 1965 Chevy II brochure.
For consignment, a 1965 Chevrolet Nova 2 door sedan showing 52
miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption
and faulty odometer. Born with an inline six, this Nova has been
transformed into a Pro-Street version with a built 434ci V8.
Exterior
You're going to make doves cry with this two stage Purple Metal
Flake model with a steep rake and tubbed rear, presenting cleanly
with a few companion chrome elements that look like icy decoration.
By 60's standards, this is a small car with a square profile that
is basic and handsome with panels that match in size including the
longer door. The flat decklid falls abruptly to a flat back which
lifts with trunk lid, taking with it the reverse lights and leaving
the red tail lights, simple and square, in place. Up front, the
straked grille is flanked by halo projector beam headlights with
amber markers embedded in the chrome bumper below. On top is a cowl
hood. The car rides on 15-inch Polished American Racing Torque
wheels and both the tires and wheels are heavily staggered in width
and height, adding greatly to the dramatic stance. Overall, the
paint is good, with some imperfections noted as dimpled filler,
inclusions, chips, specks on horizontal surfaces, a scratch on the
hood, staining by the fuel filler, scrapes on lower surfaces, light
bubbling,
Interior
The door panels start off in good condition with smooth sections
and a ribbed panel, all in black with a polished mid trim piece,
framed in purple paint. The front bucket seats combine a ribbed
band of vinyl and present in very nice condition with back
mirroring materials and condition but will be harder to occupy
thanks to the roll cage. Up front, purple reigns again with
otherwise vintage styling beginning with the steering wheel on a
tilt column onto the central, oval instrument cluster now occupied
by AutoMeter gauges. A modern AM/FM radio fills the bezel perfectly
and a Hurst shifter rises from the metal center console over black
loop carpet, all in very nice shape. There's a headliner in place
and the barren trunk is partially filled by the tubs.
Drivetrain
Lots of chrome and even some purple accenting under the hood where
we find the consignor-stated 434ci V8 with a Holley Brawler
4-barrel carburetor over an Edelbrock intake. It's mated to a
Muncie M20 4-speed manual from '70-'74 routing power to the
narrowed 12 bolt rear axle. Headers, power brakes and power
steering are on board inside this showy bay.
Undercarriage
She's clean underneath with dual exhaust the run through FlowMaster
mufflers and exit unobstructed in back. Power disc brakes on all
four wheels include Wilwoods in back. Suspension consists of Heidts
Mustang II style front end and ladder bars with coil overs on the
shortened axle in back. Of note is the heavy duty polished rear
differential cover and a driveshaft loop.
Drive-Ability
A significant exhaust note makes it clear this is not your run of
the mill Nova and our short trip around the test loop proves that
out with astounding power, ideal throttle response, straight
tracking, and braking that's on point. Of note is the speedometer,
odometer and trip odometer not working but all other functions on
this purple people pleaser operate as they should. While Classic
Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time
of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be
working at the time of your purchase.
We think Prince may have said it best, "I don't care where we go, I
don't care what we do, I don't care, pretty baby, just take me with
you!". Yes, this inviting piece of Pro-Street beauty is the three
dimensional expression of a Joy Ride, just waiting for its next
jockey.
