"First of all, the award winning Chevrolet Blazer was designed from
the inside out to be comfortable, roomy and safe. Then we added an
exclusive Driver Control System to its dependable, long lasting
Chevrolet truck chassis, to help you feel more secure in any
driving situation. Finally, Blazer was styled to become the sleek
piece of rolling sculpture you see here. Chevrolet Blazer. Whoever
thought comfortable, roomy and safe could look so good." Excerpted
from the 1996 sales brochure.
For consignment, a 1996 Chevrolet S10 Blazer with a title verified
111,851 actual miles. Adult owned and driven, this one has been
given a unique profile with the addition of some wrap and a
stunning set of wheels.
Exterior
The original Olympic White paint is accented by the black wrap and
dark tinted windows above, giving the truck a dramatic profile. Add
some matching wheels and your normal pedestrian SUV becomes
something a bit special. Here we have Foose wheels, 17-inch in
front and 20-inch in back, solid black spokes and a thin silver
rim, a dynamic set of shoes with a staggered set of tires that sets
this S10 apart. The chrome grille takes in single, square inset
headlights while the tail lights take on a flush profile with
rounded corners, differentiating them from the previous S10
generation. Overall, the condition is very nice with imperfections
noted as chips on the edge of the hood, other chips throughout,
touched up scratches, and scuffs on front and rear bumpers.
Interior
Cloth accenting begins on the beige door panels where plastics and
vinyl also add to the well designed door, both presenting nicely
with the driver's showing just a touch of use. The cloth bucket
seats have held up well for the most part with a small tear in the
driver's and the rear buckets presenting nicely, each afforded
their own cupholders, armrests, and speakers embedded in the
sidewall. A black steering wheel and central stack offers a nice
contrast to the tan coverage on the inside and an overhead console
offers lights, storage and a digital display. The instrument
cluster is simple and concise and GM's gray buttoned era is evident
on the AM/FM/Cassette radio and adjacent A/C panel dials. A center
console provides the cupholders and storage for front occupants and
tan carpet covers the floor with matching mats. The rear cargo area
is also carpeted, including the tailgate, and has a fully covered
spare tire.
Drivetrain
The fully stock powerplant under the hood is GM's 4.3 liter Vortec
V6, a venerable engine putting out 190 horsepower and one that is
fuel injected. It's mated to the 4L60E 4-speed automatic
transmission that routed power to the 10 bolt axle with 3.90 gears
and the coveted G80 RPO, Positraction. The bay presents
cleanly.
Undercarriage
We veer from stock configuration here as the consignor has added
BellTech products that include lowering springs, Nitro gas shocks,
rear lowering blocks and drop spindles. Power brakes are on board
as front disc and rear drum and a single exhaust travels through a
stock style muffler on it way to a rearward exit.
Drive-Ability
This truck has been well maintained and it shows both cosmetically
and by how it runs. We have no complaints here as the trusty Vortec
pulls this black and white S10 around the test loop without a
hiccup. All functions operate as they should and you will find this
one in the truck room at Classic Auto Mall! While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
You want a cool little grocery getter that will also fit right in
on cruise night? Here's an unmodified, (engine), and clean example
of what's becoming more uncommon each year; a second gen S10. At 30
years old, this is a classic you can also daily drive!
