1947 Cadillac Series 62
1947 Cadillac Series 62 Club Coupe Running & Driving Restomod / Patina Project Offered for sale is a 1947 Cadillac Series 62 two-door Club Coupe, featuring the beautiful fastback-style body that makes these immediate postwar Cadillacs so distinctive. This is not a restored show car. It is a running and driving vintage Cadillac with a largely original, aged appearance combined with significant mechanical upgrades underneath. It would make an excellent candidate for someone looking for a patina-style driver, restomod project, or a solid starting point for a more extensive restoration. The car retains the unmistakable character of a late-1940s Cadillac, including its large chrome grille, long hood, sweeping rear bodywork and substantial original interior. Rather than hiding its age, the car wears decades of use visibly and honestly.
BODY & EXTERIOR The Cadillac retains what appears to be an older/original-type finish with considerable age and patina. Paint is worn, faded and weathered in areas, giving the car a very authentic unrestored appearance. Overall, the body presents surprisingly straight for a vehicle approaching 80 years old. Panel alignment and gaps generally appear respectable, and there is no obvious evidence of major structural collision damage from what has previously been observed. There is rust and corrosion that a buyer should expect to address. Areas previously observed include bubbling/corrosion around portions of the lower body and rear quarter areas, surface rust, and deterioration around portions of the trunk/trunk-floor area. The underside also shows evidence of older floor repairs/reinforcement plates. This should therefore be considered an unrestored vintage body with rust and previous repairs, rather than a rust-free car. Much of the prominent Cadillac exterior brightwork remains with the vehicle, including the impressive front grille and associated chrome. Some trim and smaller exterior components are missing or incomplete. Known items include chrome trim pieces located above both rear wheel openings and some rear-window-area chrome/mounting hardware. There are also miscellaneous smaller exterior items that will require sourcing or restoration.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION The original Cadillac drivetrain has been replaced with a later-model powertrain. The exact engine displacement/model has not been positively identified, so it is being represented simply as a later replacement engine rather than making an unsupported claim about its specifications. The transmission is also a later automatic transmission. It appears to be a GM-style automatic, but the exact model has not been positively confirmed. The car runs and drives. This drivetrain conversion makes the Cadillac a particularly interesting basis for a driver or restomod while retaining the unmistakable exterior character of the original 1947 Cadillac. FRONT SUSPENSION, STEERING & BRAKES One of the most significant aspects of this Cadillac is that the chassis has already received substantial modernization. The front end uses a more modern suspension arrangement with power steering and front disc brakes, along with upgraded suspension components. These modifications provide a useful foundation for someone interested in completing the car as a vintage cruiser or restomod.
REAR SUSPENSION & BRAKES The rear of the car has also been updated. It is equipped with a later GM-style rear axle assembly and rear disc brakes, giving the car four-wheel disc braking rather than its original 1947 braking arrangement. The rear suspension utilizes leaf springs and conventional shocks, and a later driveshaft is installed to work with the updated drivetrain and rear axle.
EXHAUST The Cadillac is equipped with a dual exhaust system associated with the later drivetrain installation.
INTERIOR The interior retains a distinctly original/unrestored character and shows substantial age and wear. This is not a freshly upholstered or cosmetically restored interior. Upholstery, panels, trim and other interior surfaces should be expected to show their age. The original-style Cadillac steering wheel remains a particularly attractive feature. It is the large ivory-colored period steering wheel with the chrome three-spoke/banjo-style horn ring and Cadillac center emblem. As expected for its age, the wheel shows cracking and deterioration. The interior could be preserved in its current patina condition for an old-school driver, or it provides a basis for a complete factory-style or custom interior restoration.
WINDOWS & DOORS The door/window system is incomplete and will require additional work. Components associated with the side glass and manual window mechanisms have been missing or incomplete, including glass/regulator-related hardware and associated tracks, channels and interior door components. Replacement parts will need to be sourced and/or existing components repaired depending upon how the next owner chooses to finish the car. Interior door panels/trim are also incomplete, and at least one exterior door lock cylinder has previously been noted as missing/incomplete.
ELECTRICAL The electrical system should be considered a project area. The wiring has been modified over the years and should be inspected, sorted and finished properly by the next owner. This is one of the primary areas that would benefit from additional work before the car is considered fully sorted.
WHO THIS CAR IS FOR This Cadillac is best suited to an enthusiast who appreciates the combination of an authentic, weathered postwar Cadillac body with significant mechanical upgrades already completed. It could be finished as a patina cruiser, developed further into a traditional restomod, or restored cosmetically while retaining the upgraded chassis and drivetrain. It is being represented honestly as an older running and driving project, not as a finished restoration. The next owner should expect normal sorting, repairs and finishing work associated with an extensively modified vehicle of this age.
