Few automobiles represent postwar American design as instantly as
the first-generation Chevrolet Corvette, and this 1960 Corvette
captures the character that made the C1 a lasting automotive icon.
Finished in classic white with contrasting silver side coves, this
Corvette presents the dramatic proportions, sweeping body lines and
bright chrome details associated with one of Chevrolet's most
recognizable designs.
Power comes from a correct-type 283ci Chevrolet small-block V8. The
engine is appropriate for the year and model but is not represented
as the original numbers-matching engine. It is topped with a chrome
air cleaner and fitted with finned Corvette-script valve covers,
while the traditional Chevrolet Orange engine finish provides the
proper period appearance.
The V8 is paired with a Powerglide automatic transmission operated
through the floor-mounted selector positioned between the seats.
This combination gives the car an easy-driving personality well
suited for weekend cruising, local shows and relaxed touring.
The exterior retains the signature details that define the 1960
Corvette, including quad headlights, a chrome-toothed grille,
wraparound bumpers, front-fender coves, rear fender-mounted
taillights and dual exhaust outlets integrated into the rear bumper
area. The white finish is complemented by polished trim, Corvette
crossed-flags emblems and silver coves that emphasize the car's
sculpted profile.
Factory-style chrome wheel covers and wide whitewall tires complete
the period presentation. The tires are marked 6.70R15, maintaining
the tall sidewall and narrow profile expected on an early
Corvette.
Inside, the cockpit is finished in black with individual bucket
seats, a floor console and seat belts. The sweeping instrument
cluster includes a 160-mph speedometer, centrally mounted
tachometer and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant
temperature, battery condition and oil pressure. The odometer
currently displays 47,112 miles, though actual mileage is not being
represented without supporting documentation.
Additional interior equipment includes a Wonder Bar AM radio,
in-dash clock, heater and defroster controls, a Corvette-branded
steering wheel and the distinctive passenger-side dash treatment
found in the C1. A black convertible soft top is also included,
providing weather protection while preserving the open-air
character that makes these early Corvettes so enjoyable.
Photographs of the underside show the Corvette's traditional
separate-frame construction, independent front suspension, rear
leaf-spring arrangement and dual exhaust system. The engine
compartment, interior, exterior and chassis retain a largely
period-correct presentation rather than the appearance of a heavily
modernized restomod.
With its classic color combination, correct-type 283 V8, Powerglide
automatic transmission and unmistakable first-generation styling,
this 1960 Chevrolet Corvette offers an appealing opportunity to own
one of America's most celebrated sports cars. It is equally suited
for casual cruising, Corvette club events or display within a
collection of significant American automobiles.
