"The Mercedes-Benz E 320 was a quartet of luxury cars comprising a
sedan, a wagon, a coupe, and a convertible. The model was part of
the greater Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and it ran between model years
1994 and 2009. Initially, the sedan and wagon offered seating for
up to five, while the coupe and convertible seated as many as four.
All four body styles incorporated 217 horsepower, 3.2 liter six
cylinder engines. In 1998, 4MATIC, the proprietary Mercedes-Benz
all wheel drive system, debuted, and in 2005, a CDI trim with a
diesel variant of the V6 became available."Mbparts.mbusa.com
For consignment, a 1994 Mercedes Benz E320 cabriolet with a title
verified 74,798 actual miles. The car comes with service records
which indicate head gasket replacement. According to our consignor,
the top is newer.
Exterior
This handsome car is unmistakably Mercedes with the distinct front
fascia and three pointed star on the hood. In true 90's fashion,
this car is predominantly Brilliant Silver Metallic but the lower
body panels and bumper covers are a contrasting gray and the two
toned cab is topped by a dark blue canvas top with glass rear
window. In back, the tail lights contour to the nicely designed
diagonal edge of the decklid which latches low and is opened and
locked by the cylinder below it. You will not find details like
that on your economy box. 15-inch Mercedes wheels carry Michelin
195/65R15 tires with a mid 2025 date code and the car carries a PA
inspection to July 2027. The body, paint and trim are in fantastic
shape with imperfections noted as chips, inclusions, a long scratch
on the front bumper, and chin scrapes.
Interior
No black or saddle here; it's Dark Blue for the inside starting
wonderfully on the nicely designed door panels with a pleated
insert, smooth quality materials, and a burl wood detail plate,
both doors presenting cleanly. Blue leather also covers the front
bucket seats and the rear 2+2 with some light creasing on the
driver's seat on otherwise near perfect units. The leather wrapped
steering wheel leads to the typically efficient instrument cluster
that leaves no guessing and includes a clock within the tachometer.
Wood trim spans the dash for more warmth, and also serves as the
overlay for the center stack holding toggles, A/C panel, and
original AM/FM/Cassette radio. Class on wheels is evident by the
center console, a wood base housing the shifter, window controls
and other switchgear. Plush blue carpet floods the floor with
matching mats and the trunk is fully finished in plush gray cloth
that covers every side.
Drivetrain
Under the hood we find a clean 3.2 liter DOHC inline six cylinder
with 217 horsepower, fuel injected, and mated to a 4-speed
automatic transmission that routes power to the rear axle with 2.65
gearing.
Undercarriage
Belying its age and mileage is the underside which presents
cleanly. Here's where we note power disc brakes on all four wheels,
fully independent suspension with coil springs at both ends, and a
single exhaust system flowing through original equipment. We note a
drop or two of oil but it does not appear to be an active leak and
is residual in nature.
Drive-Ability
We expect a solid ride with good power and a comfortable interior
and this pampered product of Sindelfingen delivers on all
expectations. It is, to steal another brand's moto, the ultimate
driving machine and with the potential of open skies above, a
wonderful weekend chariot. Other than the radio needing an access
code, all functions on board work as they should. While Classic
Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time
of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be
working at the time of your purchase.
In 1996, Mercedes went back to the quad round headlight face for
the E320 which some found polarizing. This one maintains the more
modern configuration and it's almost hard to believe that the car
we're looking at is more than 30 years old! It still looks good. It
still smells of wealth. It's still a great car.
