This is an extremely rare and highly historical vehicle. It is the verified true numbered parade/festival car #25, designated to the Indianapolis race track for the May 30, 1970 race and events. A total of 33 legitimate pace cars were sent to the Indianapolis track and car #Turn 25 had the honor of circling the track prior to the race carrying the mayor of Indianapolis Richard Luger, who then went on to be governor of Illinois.
This cars provenance in history is well documented with excellent large scale photos of the mayor in car #25 on the track along with Hemmings classic car magazine , Historical articles and other accompanying articles from newspapers and media from the day. It is just an outstanding piece of classic history with a great historic beginning and some excellent vintage documented memorabilia. Further you can see in the picture provided this was the model car for the miniature die cast packaged car 1.65 scale. In the picture on the scale model packaging you can see that the camera man and the mayor have been edited out, but their shadowy silhouette still remain in the windshield reflection. Excellent picture to compare to the full size picture with them both in it.
A total of only 33 cars were at the Indianapolis 500 track for the race and ceremonies and they are considered the legitimate collectible pace cars. There was a total of 626 pace car replicas produced by GM for the 1970 year and only 60 Y -74 350 rocket engine powered cars were made. It is estimated that out of the 60 Y-74 cars produced that only 10 to 15 of them still exist today.
Car #25 has undergone an extensive frame off restoration and the work has been performed to an extremely high level. The body was stripped to bare metal and removed from the frame. The body was metal worked, assembled, then flat blocked to straight then dismantled and painted.
The factory color porcelain white was applied in high Grade PPG paint. The interior upholstery was provided by Legendary upholstery, new top, new carpets, door panels, and all necessary items in the interior were addressed. Further factory options include, W – 25 Ram Air hood, 12 Bolt Posi traction rear differential (3.42 ratio) and rally wheels.
A Gardner Exhaust system was installed and a set of Reproduction Fire Stone Wide Oval tires complete its original appearance. This restoration is extremely nice and took a lot of effort, time and money to complete correctly.
