The BMW Z3 arrived with plenty of attention in 1996, thanks in part
to its appearance in the James Bond film GoldenEye, starring Pierce
Brosnan. With its long hood, short rear deck, and classic two-seat
proportions, the Z3 brought traditional roadster styling into the
modern era. This first-year 1996 BMW Z3 Roadster is finished in
Arctic Silver Metallic with a black convertible top and has
traveled just 31,988 miles.
Under the hood is BMW's 1.9-liter DOHC fuel-injected inline-four,
producing 138 horsepower. Paired with a five-speed manual
transmission and limited-slip differential, it delivers the
responsive handling and driver involvement that make a lightweight
BMW roadster so enjoyable. Four-wheel power disc brakes with ABS
and 16-inch BMW alloy wheels with new tires complete the package.
The Arctic Silver Metallic paint complements the Z3's sculpted
fenders and distinctive side vents, and the black folding top makes
it easy to enjoy a sunny afternoon with the roof down.
Inside, black leather bucket seats offer power adjustment and
heating, joined by a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power windows,
power locks, power mirrors, cruise control, air conditioning, and a
factory AM/FM/cassette radio. Dual front airbags add another
measure of safety to this well-equipped BMW convertible.
The Z3 also holds an important place in BMW history as the
company's first model manufactured entirely outside Germany. Built
in South Carolina, its success helped establish the American
factory that would later become central to BMW's SUV
production.
With its low mileage, five-speed manual, and first-year
significance, this BMW Z3 Roadster is a wonderful reminder of what
made 1990s sports cars so much fun: a willing engine, a winding
road, and an open sky. Just the thing for unwinding after a rough
day at the office!
