"It was the first modern Corvette to challenge the world's best
sports cars on truly level ground, the first Corvette to take a
class victory at Le Mans, and the last Corvette to feature those oh
so cool hidden headlamps. But the fifth gen Vette, (C5), came very
close to not existing at all. According to Russ McLean, platform
manager for the model, General Motors management made the decision
to "sunset" America's most iconic sports car in the Nineties.
McLean and a group of rebels ignored the decision and continued
development of the Corvette, much of it off the books and on their
own time." Road and Track, Dec. 2017
For consignment, a 2000 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with a title
verified 70,035 actual miles. Between 2024 and 2026, this car
received new tires, brake pads, battery, air conditioning
components, upgraded exhaust and new headlight motors. That's a
chunk of change you won't be spending!
Exterior
Accurately named and a few shades darker than silver is Pewter
Metallic paint covering this example of America's sports car, a
stunning shade that accentuates the curves, coke bottle shape, and
epic fender grille out from which emits streamlined side molding. A
splash of red is provided by the brake calipers which are revealed
through the wide spokes of the 17-inch wheels in front and 18-inch
wheels in back, carrying low profile, staggered size tires with a
late 2023 date code. The front fascia is both aggressive and
artistically graceful at the same time, opening up for the intake
of air but also repel oncoming wind with smooth line and subtle
hood bends. In back, the fascia is something you will never get
tired of looking at, a wide stance with big tail lights, integrated
splitter, and of course, the amazing quad exit exhaust here in a
slightly stepped configuration. Imperfections include some minor
inclusions, scratches, chips, curb rash, bubbling on the door, and
requisite chin scrapes.
Interior
Ebony black textured plastic creates clean door panels that
seamlessly feature a speaker and safety reflector. The black
leather buckets are in great shape too with some light wear on the
driver's side. The steering wheel, soft covered dash pad, and dash
itself do not show their age and the integrated AM/FM/CD radio and
A/C panel, along with their digital green displays look fresh. Your
passenger is afforded a grab handle up front and some added
cupholders in the footwell while the leather booted shifter resides
in the center console and also belies the mileage and age. This
one's obviously been pampered! Black carpet covers the floor, the
targa liner is in nice shape and the finished trunk area is
clean.
Drivetrain
Clean as the day is long, the bay is home to the 5.7 liter LS1 V8
putting out a healthy 345 horsepower and set into motion via a
4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission with power being routed to the
limited slip rear axle with 2.73 gears.
Undercarriage
Not a shock here; the underside is clean. Dual exhaust meets with
stainless steel muffler and exit through chrome tips. Power disc
brakes are on all four wheels and suspension consists of
independent unequal length double wishbones with transverse
fiberglass monoleaf springs.
Drive-Ability
Our checklist shows nothing but green checkmarks as the car
delivers on all counts; great ride, plenty of power, and clean on
the inside and out. Twisty roads and open straightaways await as
all functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
Silver, black and white and are the most common colors on the road
today. But Pewter is in a league of its own and is a stunning
choice for the C5 Corvette. Here's a clean example that's ready to
take residence in your garage! It's time for the Camry to retire to
the driveway. Don't worry, your spouse will understand.
