" 'The Hot One is Even Hotter' was the motto that Chevrolet boasted
for its 150, 210 and Bel Air series in 1956. With a new Super Turbo
Fire V8, the new 1956 promised a friskier, sweeter ride with safer
passing. Playing off the success of the previous year redesign, the
new 1956 Chevy was met with an appetite of frenzy from the buying
public. Minor changes were made to the 1956, including new engine
options, a slightly different dash, a newly hidden gas filler cap
in the rear fin, and colors, trim and fabrics. The '56 Chevy was a
hit as sales continued to climb." OldRide.com

The combination of satin paint, big wheels, and drop top capability
makes this one a worthy candidate for those in the Tri-Five
market!
Exterior
This is Hot Rod Satin Black standout augmented by 17-inch Billet
Specialties wheels wrapped in staggered sized ZR rated tires with
an early 2023 date code. Satin black serves as the perfect
background for the trim; a stainless spear that jogs up like a
hockey stick beyond the door handle and swoops downward over the
rear fender to meet the chrome bumper. Ornate tail light nacelles
house jet age influenced lights over a robust chrome bumper and
aggressive dual exhaust. Speaking of jet age, don't stand in the
street because the bird beaked aircraft that is the hood ornament
is a large, leading piece of metal atop a chrome filled face and
bumper. The emblems also pop off the black surface and the canvas
top is in great shape. Imperfections are few and include scuffs and
scratches on the bumpers and minor inclusions in the paint.
Interior
Ivory and black panels alternate on the door panels to include a
vinyl pleated section and angular inserts over a straight black
lower, and both doors show some age, especially the passenger's
which is in rough shape. White vinyl surrounds charcoal cloth in
the typical 50's fashion of triangular uppers and stitched borders
below and with a split bench in front and full bench in back, all
showing patina with tears and soiling up front. A Billet
Specialties steering wheel fronts an upgraded digital dash in the
wedge shaped cove ahead and the remainder of the dash retains its
classic form; Bel Air gold script tops a clock ahead of the
passenger. A Hurst shifter rises from the tunnel over faded black
carpet while the trunk is barren, clean and painted.
Drivetrain
Good things are happening under the hood with a 350ci L48 V8 with a
Holley 4-barrel over a Weiand intake, all good for 300 horsepower.
It's mated to a Doug Nash 5-speed manual transmission that sends
power to the 12 bolt rear axle with 3.31 gears and Positraction.
This Chevrolet has power brakes, power steering and air
conditioning and the bay presents cleanly and includes polished and
painted components.
Undercarriage
Some obvious work has been accomplished underneath where conditions
combine some typical patina with newer components. The dual exhaust
runs through Magnaflow mufflers and power brakes are distributed as
front disc and rear drum. There are coil springs up front and leaf
springs in the back and each appear newer with spotless hardware.
We note one small spot of flaking rust on the belly but otherwise a
solid structure.
Drive-Ability
We take a seat in this uniquely specked Tri-Five and bring the big
V8 to life and it makes its presence known with a healthy growl.
It's got good acceleration to go with that sound, and power
steering makes lapping our loop a near effortless endeavor and the
car tracks straight and stops on point. The horn, reverse lights
and heater blower are not working but all other functions operate
as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
Grab the family, put the top down, and take in that sweet exhaust
note and acceleration on your way to the ice cream parlor, the
local cruise night, or just a drive about town. This is a great
looking car with the right combination of color, chrome, and
character. There's room for some TLC here but it's a project you
can drive with pride!
