In literal terms, the word Scuderia translates to "horse stable,"
but to legions of devoted racing fans; the word is inextricably
linked to Ferrari's storied Formula 1 racing team. For the Tifosi,
as its fans are known, Scuderia Ferrari is a religion. The Scuderia
enjoyed a period of unprecedented success in the early 2000s with
the dream team led by Jean Todt, Ross Brawn, and of course, the
great Michael Schumacher. After a brief two-year hiatus from the
top, Ferrari returned to form in 2007, winning both titles with
Kimi Rikknen at the wheel. That summer, Ferrari honored the
success with a new road car based on the F430. The new 430
Scuderia, unveiled by Schumacher at the IAA Motor Show in
Frankfurt, signaled the link between the new model and the Prancing
Horse's world-beating Formula 1 single-seaters.
The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion was instrumental in the
Scuderia's development, honing the already superb F430 into a
lighter, more powerful, track-oriented version of Maranello's
mid-engine eight-cylinder model. Power was up from 483 horsepower
to 503 thanks to an improved intake manifold and a lightweight
sports exhaust similar to that in the F430 Challenge racer. An
impressive 100 kilograms (approximately 220 pounds) were shed
through the extensive use of carbon fiber, plastic composite
bumpers, a Lexan engine cover, and a spartan interior stripped of
carpets and insulation for an extraordinary power-to-weight ratio
of 6.1 pounds per horsepower. Formula 1-inspired tech included
sophisticated aerodynamics, the F1 SuperFast2 transmission, and the
E-Diff coupled with the race-derived F1-Trac traction control
system. Laser-focused, the 430 Scuderia combined ultra-precise
handling with remarkable acceleration and a visceral driving
experience.
This 430 Scuderia was delivered new via Ferrari of Denver on the
30th of September 2009. The accompanying CARFAX report shows it
remained in the Denver area for several years, receiving routine
service at Ferrari of Denver through 2015. From there, ownership
went to Florida, and records show it was regularly serviced at
Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale prior to coming into the care of the
consignor. It now shows 15,570 miles recorded at the time of
cataloging, and is presented in superb condition throughout,
furnished with its factory car cover, tool kit, tire inflator,
Ferrari battery tender, and owner's manual set.
Finished in Rosso Corsa (322) with Grigio Corsa stripes and
Scuderia shields, and sitting on its factory-tuned suspension with
Grigio forged 19-inch wheels, it encapsulates the raw aggression
that has made the Scuderia one of the most sought-after Ferraris of
the past two decades. Of course, the ethos of the Scuderia is about
the driving experience stripped down to its essentials. This car
delivers that experience via optional large-sized racing-style
bucket seats trimmed in optional Nero Alcantara with technical
fabric inserts and red accent stitching. The window sticker shows
additional options include a passenger-mounted fire extinguisher,
Alcantara steering wheel and, for a touch of civility on the drive
home from the circuit, BATA footwell upholstery and a
Bluetooth-enabled Pioneer stereo.
For many enthusiasts, the 430 Scuderia sits on a short list of the
most desirable production Ferraris of the past twenty years, and
superb examples like this car show why it has earned this
distinction. It combines beauty and aggression, purity and
championship-winning Formula 1 technology, all honed to a razor
edge by arguably the greatest driver in motorsport history, Michael
Schumacher.
