The 1998 911 Carrera Cabriolet represents the end of an era, the
final generation of air-cooled 911 that dates back to its
introduction as the 901 in 1964. Consistent engine displacement
increases that reached 3.6 liters in late 1989 saw the naturally
aspirated powerplant produce 282 horsepower by 1998 and, when
paired with a sporting six-speed manual transmission, it delivered
the raw, mechanical character prized by air-cooled enthusiasts
above all else. That connection between driver and machine is
exactly what makes these final air-cooled cars so collectible
today.
Completed in December 1997, this 911 Carrera Cabriolet is finished
in a handsome all-Black livery with non-metallic Black paint over a
matching Black interior, and a Black convertible soft top evoking
the iconic triple black 911 from the TV show Californication. The
power-operated top offers similar lines to the coupe when raised
and an unobstructed path to the flat-six's symphony when down. A
clean CARFAX Report records three Michigan-based owners through
2016-almost certainly selective fair-weather use-before the car
relocated to the West Coast with 33,328 miles.
CARFAX records recent service visits at Porsche Downtown LA in both
August and December 2025. Since then, in March 2026 the 993
Cabriolet was entrusted to Strictly German Auto in Van Nuys,
California, who performed a major servicing and tune-up which
included replacing both the upper and lower valve cover gaskets,
resealing the timing case and replacing the timing chain housing
cover. The engine oil and filter were replaced, while the brake
system was flushed and bled. In July 2026, Ghost Shield was
contracted to supply PPF film for the entire front end of the
vehicle as well as the stone guards, ensuring that this 911 can be
driven and enjoyed freely and without worry.
Offered with collectible-level mileage, an alluring all-Black
livery, and recent major servicing, this final-model-year
air-cooled Carrera Cabriolet is attractively fitted with 964 Cup I
style wheels, offering a compelling opportunity for drivers and
collectors alike. With a timeless, effortlessly cool presence that
has made the 911 a fixture of film and television for decades, this
Cabriolet is just the sort of usable air-cooled classic that is
equally at home chasing sunsets on deserted two-lane blacktops, as
it is in a warm garage to be preserved and admired as an
increasingly collectible classic Porsche.
