Very nice older restoration. Great color combination, desirable
Q-code 351 4V engine. Nicely optioned, including factory A/C, power
windows, and fold-down rear seat. Good documentation. Growing in
popularity, these late Mustangs are still a blast to drive!?For
years, the '71-73 Mustangs have lived in the shadows of their older
siblings, but that seems to be changing as the market wakes up to
just how good these cars really are. This 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1
represents the end of an era but delivers genuine pony car fun in
the true Mustang tradition. There's a strong-running V8 up front,
great styling that is instant recognizable, and it remains quite
affordable to own and maintain, just like all Mustangs. Finished in
unusual code 4Q Dark Green Metallic with silver Mach 1 accents, it
has a more sophisticated look that fits the later fastback shape
rather well. This is a grown-up's pony car. Finish work on the
restoration is quite good, with a nice shine to the paint, good
gaps all around, and no signs of major panel replacement, so the
car seems to have led a good life. The hood with its NACA (not
NASA!) hood scoops, the chin spoiler, and the wing out back all
make the Mach 1 look predatory, and traditional muscle car details
like the hood pins and sport mirrors help with the image. Of note,
the urethane front bumper is in excellent condition with no
cracking and all the chrome and stainless remains in great shape.
This is a really nice car.?During the restoration, the interior was
switched from Avocado Green to Black, and we think that's the right
choice. Correct reproduction parts were used, so it looks quite
OEM, and anything that's black inside this car was new when the car
was restored. That means seat covers that still look new, door
panels with correct woodgrained inserts, and fresh black carpets.
This particular car is nicely optioned, including A/C (converted to
R134a refrigerant for easy maintenance and service), rare power
windows, a fold-down rear seat, center console, and power steering
and power disc brakes. The rim-blow steering wheel is in great
shape, the gauges are bright and crisp, and a trio of aftermarket
dials were installed in the center stack in such a way so as to
almost look factory. A digital AM/FM radio powers big JBL speakers
in the rear compartment and the T-handle on the automatic shifter
makes it easy to always find the right gear. The '73 Mach 1 might
be one of the more practical pony cars, too, with its fold-down
rear seat that extends cargo space considerably, and the trunk is
neatly upholstered with more black carpet for a finished look. It
also includes a full-sized spare and jack assembly.?The engine is a
Q-code 351 cubic inch V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor, the top engine
available in 1973. This is the Cleveland variant, known for its
deep-breathing heads and improved performance, and one drive will
convince you that the '73s aren't too shabby in the performance
department. There's plenty of torque, the engine is impeccably
smooth, and there's a fantastic V8 burble from the twin exhaust
pipes out back. It is correctly detailed with Ford Blue on the
engine and air cleaner assembly, reproduction decals, and even
things like the wire hose clamps are accurate. It's a super clean
engine that runs as great as it looks. It's backed by a heavy-duty
C6 3-speed automatic transmission and a 9-inch rear end with 3.25
gears inside, so the supporting cast is more than up to the task of
handling as much power as you can make. Floors are solid and have
not been cut, the rockers aren't compromised, and the torque boxes
are in excellent shape, so even though this car has lived in
Cleveland most of its life, it apparently didn't suffer though
Cleveland winters. A newer exhaust system sounds just right, and as
I mentioned, power steering and disc brakes make it easy to handle.
There's also a newer gas tank, air shocks so you can adjust the
ride height, and lots of new hardware in the front suspension and
brakes. 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels are exactly the right choice, and
carry fat 245/60/15 front and 255/60/15 rear performance
radials.?Documentation includes a Marti Report verifying that the
car is what it appears to be as well as receipts from years of
maintenance. A few spare ignition parts are included as
well.?Nicely finished, fun to drive, and still reasonably priced,
this cool Mach 1 remains a smart buy. Parts are plentiful, service
is easy, and these are on a very short list of Mustangs that are
actively appreciating in the market right now. Get in today, enjoy
the car, and perhaps someday it'll pay you back. Call
