INTRODUCTION: Numbers-matching driveline and original colors,
documented with a Marti Report! Rotisserie restored approximately
12 years ago to show quality standards, and it remains incredibly
impressive throughout. When comparing this Boss 302 to others, keep
in mind that it's a factory red car with its original
numbers-matching engine. That combination makes it especially rare
and desirable!
EXTERIOR: The fit and finish are outstanding! It was born a red
car, and I absolutely love this fastback body style. When it's
decked out with all the stripes, scoops, spoilers, louvers, and
chrome wheels, it's a knockout! The body is absolutely straight
everywhere you look. The panels fit square and flush, and the doors
open and close like they're new. The paint is polished like red
glass! The jambs are painted neatly with new sill plates. It has
the proper striping, including the correctly painted matte black
hood stripe, tail panel, and deck lid. The reflective decal stripes
on the sides and rear are also correct. It has the proper sport
slats, sport mirrors, and spoilers. The chrome and trim have been
replaced, including the bumpers, emblems, correct antenna, gas cap,
and more. The stainless trim around the windows is excellent. The
15-inch Magnum wheels look new and are wrapped in BFGoodrich tires.
It also has new weatherstrips and window seals. Even the front
fender lips are correctly rolled to accommodate the 15-inch wheels,
a detail unique to the Boss!
INTERIOR: Just as impressive inside! The first thing I noticed when
I sat down was how nice and firm the seats felt. They have new
cushions and upholstery. Looking across the dash, everything is
restored to like new condition. The chrome bezels and knobs
sparkle, and the lenses and gauges are pristine. It has a factory
tachometer and a quartz movement in the clock. The dash pad is
mint, and the factory AM/FM radio works. In back, it has the
desirable fold-down rear seat, and all the surrounding trim is
excellent. The headliner is tight as a drum, and the visors look
new. The interior lights all work. From the carpet and door panels
to the smallest details, practically everything looks new!
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Restored to show-quality factory appearance!
Most importantly, it retains its original VIN-matching
high-performance Boss 302 engine. We have posted a picture of the
VIN stamping for verification. It has the correct aluminum intake
and numbers-matching Holley carburetor with the proper manual
choke. The complete Shaker hood scoop assembly is in place, even
the heat riser from the exhaust manifold. It also has the correct
finned aluminum valve covers. The engine bay retains exceptionally
clean original metal with crisp factory seams and spot welds. The
original VIN is stamped on both inner fenders, and the original
buck tag is still in place. Everything appears correct, including
the rev limiter, Autolite plug wires, washer bottle, fan, shroud,
hose clamps, and more. It also features power steering and power
brakes. This engine compartment is impressive enough to show with
the hood open!
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: This is another area that demonstrates just how
clean the original metal is. The trunk floor has never been
repainted and still wears its original red factory finish! It shows
some age, but I actually appreciate that because it reveals how
well-preserved the metal really is. The underside of the trunk lid
and the jamb are painted glossy. It has a new weatherstrip and
trunk mat. The fold-down rear seat includes the pass-through door
into the interior.
UNDERSIDE: Meticulously restored on a rotisserie and detailed to
factory appearance! The original floors, frame rails, and seams all
look pristine. It has the correct red oxide primer with
undercoating applied in the proper locations. The entire driveline
was rebuilt and detailed to factory specifications. The suspension
and steering were restored, and the bottom of the engine is
spotless. Even the starter and fuel pump look new. It retains its
original close ratio 4-speed transmission with the factory
identification tag still riveted in place. Out back is the original
Traction-Lok rear end, also retaining its identification tag. The
gears were just replaced bumping it up from the original 3.50 to
3.70. The brake system was restored, including the front disc
brakes, and the emergency brake assembly looks complete. The fuel
system was restored with a new tank, sending unit, and lines. It
also has the correct exhaust system. The attention to detail
underneath is exceptional!
CONCLUSION: This Boss 302 keeps impressing me more and more! Not
only does it look the part, but it feels and functions just as
good. The exceptionally clean original metal, show quality
restoration, and attention to factory correctness really set it
apart. Add in the desirable factory red color, numbers-matching
driveline, and Marti Report documentation, and you have something
special. This is an investment-grade Boss that will be every bit as
enjoyable to own as it is to admire!
