DETAIL The Eighteenth Series Packards were
introduced for the 1940 model year and saw the Super Eight
designation divided into the One-Sixty and Custom Super Eight
One-Eighty model ranges, each available on three wheelbase lengths.
The 127-inch wheelbase Model 1803 platform carried six body styles,
including this example's Style 1378 Business Coupe coachwork. The
Packard was reportedly purchased by Pebble Beach Concours
d'Elegance judge Gene Perkins in 2019 and then it underwent a
refurbishment that was completed in 2021. Finished in Cream over
Pale Green leather upholstery, it is powered by a 356 CI L-head
inline eight-cylinder engine, paired with a column-shifted
three-speed manual transmission. The 356 CI L-head inline-eight was
factory equipped with a nine-bearing crankshaft, low-maintenance
hydraulic lifters, lightweight aluminum pistons, and a single
Stromberg AAV-26 downdraft carburetor. Output was factory-rated at
160 horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a
column-shifted three-speed manual transmission.This example was
repainted in its current Cream exterior finish during the
aforementioned refurbishment. Desirable period accessories and
highlights include a grille guard, driving lamps, Packard's Goddess
of Speed radiator mascot, a rakish V-shaped windshield, running
boards, and a Packard-branded exhaust downspout. The passenger
compartment features a bench seat trimmed in Pale Green leather
upholstery, along with a color-coordinated headliner, door panels,
and rear bulkhead. Green carpets line the floors, while painted
woodgrain trim graces the dashboard and window trim. Additional
equipment includes Tenite plastic dash accents, a Packard Super De
Luxe heater and defroster, a locking glovebox, and a clock. The
banjo-style steering wheel features a red Tenite rim and a chrome
horn ring and frames a 120-mph speedometer flanked by gauges
monitoring water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and battery
charge. The five-digit odometer was reset during the refurbishment,
and it shows approximately 1,700 miles at the time of writing, with
total mileage unknown.Black-painted steel wheels feature chrome
hubcaps and trim rings and mount 7.00R16 Auburn Deluxe Radial
whitewall tires. A spare wheel is stowed beneath the carpeted trunk
floor. Stopping power is delivered by four-wheel hydraulic drum
brakes. A CCCA National First Prize plaque is affixed to the right
windshield panel, confirming the Classic Car Club of America
National First Prize it earned in 2023. Call us today to see this
