Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is proud to present this
2001 Ford Mustang Saleen Tribute, finished in Mineral Gray with a
Tan interior. While this car is not represented as a factory-built
Saleen, it has been extensively modified with Saleen components and
performance upgrades throughout the body, interior, engine,
drivetrain, suspension, and braking systems.
Under the hood is a modified 4.6-liter V8 equipped with twin 57mm
Garrett turbochargers. Engine upgrades listed with the car include
Stage 3 custom turbo Comp Cams camshafts, Trick Flow cylinder
heads, and a ported and polished intake. Fuel delivery is handled
by an Aeromotive dual fuel-pump system, and the car is tuned for
93-octane fuel. A full custom 3-inch stainless-steel exhaust system
completes the engine and exhaust combination.
A Dynojet Research dyno sheet accompanies the car and records a
maximum of 527.07 horsepower at 6,110 RPM and 523.46 lb-ft of
torque at 5,100 RPM.
Power is sent through a T-5 5-speed manual transmission equipped
with a heavy-duty race clutch and pressure plate. A short-throw
shifter handles gear changes. Additional drivetrain upgrades
include a Ford Racing 3.31 rear gear, Ford Racing third-member
brace, aluminum driveshaft, and Auburn limited-slip
differential.
A major part of the build is its Saleen-inspired exterior. The
modification documentation states that the car is equipped with a
full polyurethane Saleen body kit sourced from Saleen rather than a
fiberglass reproduction. The hood and front bumper have been
repainted, and the lighting has been updated with HID headlights,
new taillights, and a new third brake light.
Inside, the Mustang has been fitted with front and rear seats from
a 2003 Mustang Cobra. Instrumentation includes a Saleen 200-mph
gauge cluster, additional pillar-mounted gauges, and an additional
RPM racing gauge. G-Force harnesses have also been installed while
the standard seatbelts remain in place.
The audio system consists of a Pioneer touchscreen stereo, 10-inch
JL Audio subwoofer, and Pioneer amplifier. The battery has been
relocated to the trunk, and a rear shock-tower bar and brace has
also been installed.
The suspension and chassis have received extensive upgrades of
their own. The car features an adjustable front suspension,
upgraded K-member, and Saleen Racecraft springs at all four corners
manufactured by Eibach. A rear shock-tower brace further ties into
the chassis modifications.
Braking equipment includes Saleen brake components and rotors at
both the front and rear. Power steering and power brakes remain
part of the car's equipment.
The Mustang currently rides on Gloss Black SVE wheels in a
staggered configuration, measuring 18x9 in front and 18x10 at the
rear. They are paired with Nitto 555 tires listed as 255/35/18 in
front and 305/45/18 at the rear. The documentation provided with
the car also lists a set of chrome Saleen wheels measuring 18x9 in
front and 18x10 at the rear.
Additional equipment includes air conditioning, an AM/FM-equipped
audio system, cruise control, power windows, and power locks. The
documentation also notes a recent oil change.
From the twin 57mm Garrett turbochargers and modified 4.6-liter V8
to the T-5 5-speed, upgraded rear differential, Saleen-sourced body
components, Cobra seating, Saleen instrumentation, Racecraft
suspension, upgraded brakes, and aftermarket audio system, this
Mustang has received modifications throughout nearly every major
area of the car.
