Cruisin Classics is excited to present to you what may be both the
fastest and the best looking 1988 Ford Ranger XLT in existence! At
first glance, this Ranger just looks like a very well preserved
example - until you see the meaty rear tires and begin to think
there might be more to it. Then, you lift the hood, feel your heart
race and your eyes get bigger as you discover that this little
truck has been gifted with a $13K+ 363ci 595hp Ford V-8 built by
Shafiroff Racing! That's just the tip of the iceberg though, let's
dig deeper into this incredibly well-built Ranger...
This truck comes to us today dressed in a professional respray in
it's original color - Colonial White. The paint job is a good one
and we'd call it high-driver quality. Up front is a bright eggcrate
grille with a blue Ford oval badge that's flanked by clear
rectangular headlights. Beneath are turn signal lights and a
gleaming chrome bumper. As you move around to the side, you can see
that all of the glass has been lightly tinted and it's all
surrounded in black trim. Black dual side mirrors and door handles
add a nice contrast to the white paint. On the fenders are "Ranger
XLT" badges and on the drivers side of the bed are fuel doors for
two gas tanks. The front tank has been removed and the rear tank is
new. The rear window is a 4-piece slider and a third brake light is
mounted just above it. The bed is protected by a very nice BlackMax
vinyl snap-on cover from Extang. Under the cover is a steel bed in
excellent condition with both a black rubber mat and a carpet
liner. There is a car cover included in the bed as an added bonus.
The tailgate has fresh black "FORD" lettering and newer-looking
hardware and it's flanked by new wrap-around taillights. Below is
another chrome bumper, this one topped with a black step-cover.
Exhaust exits through two angled black tips just ahead of the
passenger rear wheel. This Ranger sits atop a set of 15" Weld
Racing ProStar wheels wrapped in staggered BF Goodrich Radial T/A's
(front - 215/60R15, rear - 295/50R15) - a great looking choice for
this sporty truck. Prepare to be impressed when you look underneath
this Ranger - not only is the undercarriage incredibly clean and
solid, there is a Ridetech triangulated 4-link rear set-up, rear
QA1 adjustable coil-over shocks, and a set of glass-pack style
mufflers.
Even as nice as the exterior is, it's what's under the hood that
steals the show for this truck. This clean black engine bay
features custom-fabricated black sidewall covers that perfectly
frame the beastly 363ci Shafiroff-built Ford V-8. This engine was
purchased in 2018 and was installed by Rabid Customs in Ohio. This
is a seriously well-built engine that's just full of
top-of-the-line internal parts - check out the list below in the
bullet points. The block is topped off with ported aluminum heads,
aluminum "Shafiroff 363 Ultra Street" valve covers, an Edelbrock
Super Victor intake manifold, a Holley Sniper EFI system (installed
in 2024), and a chrome K&N air breather. Ahead of the block is
a CVF Billet front runner system that powers a chrome CVF A/C
compressor (paired with a Vintage Air system), chrome alternator,
and power steering unit. Keeping things cool is an aluminum
radiator with an electric puller fan and stainless steel hoses and
a transmission cooler with an electric fan. Mated up to the V-8 is
a 4R70W 4-speed overdrive transmission that sends power to the
wheels via a 10-bolt rear axle with 3.55:1 Posi gears. Exhaust
flows through Hedman headers and dual glass-pack mufflers before
exiting the tips with an authoritative growl. Much needed stopping
power is provided by power front disc and rear drum brakes.
Needless to say, this Ranger is not for inexperienced drivers nor
the faint of heart!
It should come as no surprise after seeing the level of quality
that has gone into the build so far that the interior received the
same level of attention. Open the door and an overhead courtesy
light pops on to illuminate a great-looking red cab. The simple
door panels are covered in red vinyl with armrests and crank
windows. A bright chrome sill plate leads you inside where a
comfortable original red cloth split bench seat awaits. The seat is
just a little faded, but it's in excellent overall condition and it
has a fold-down center armrest. Underfoot is nice red pile carpet
with carpeted floormats and overhead is a tight red felt headliner
with matching visors. Rising from the center of the floor is a
B&M Magnum Grip Street Bandit shifter with an overdrive button
for the automatic transmission. Ahead of the driver is a 2-spoke
OEM steering wheel on a fixed column with a working horn. Also on
the column are a stalk for the intermittent wipers and an Autometer
Quicklight shift-light. Beyond the wheel is a red crack-free dash
with a silver gauge bezel that's outfitted with an Omega Kustom
multi-gauge unit (fuel, volt, oil, temp), an Autometer 8K
tachometer, and an Omega Kustom 140mph speedometer. The odometer
currently reads 2,964 miles (non-actual). To the right of the
gauges is a Dual AM/FM/CD/BT head unit that plays your favorite
tunes through a dash speaker. There are a couple speakers behind
the seat, but they do not seem to work. Below the stereo are
Vintage Air controls for the HVAC system. The heat, fan, and
directional controls all work, but the A/C does not blow cold, just
ambient temperature. Mounted under the center of the dash is an
Autometer Digital Pro Shift System controller. Inside the glovebox
you'll find a controller (with holder) for the Sniper EFI system, a
SunPro oil pressure gauge, a PCS Simple Shift controller, and an
owners manual. Tucked under the passenger seat is a small fire
extinguisher. Included with this Ranger is a three-ring binder and
a thick packet full of receipts, installation guides, history, and
build notes - a really nice extra.
If you like cool trucks and you're in the mood for something
wickedly fast, this Ranger deserves a serious look. This is a
professionally built truck with premium parts everywhere you look.
You certainly couldn't build this truck today for what we are
asking for it! Give our friendly staff a call today and be the next
lucky owner of this one of a kind 1988 Ford Ranger!
