"The 1969 Camaro was available in many different configurations.
From a plain Jane sport coupe to asphalt eating Super Sport, there
was something for everyone! Any buyer who selected an SS model
Camaro would receive one of potentially 5 available high output
V8s. The entry SS350 was the L48 350ci/300hp small block, while an
SS396 Camaro received four different big block 396ci options. These
were the L35/L34/L78/L89, which were respectively rated at
325/350/375 horsepower. The L78 and L89 were both rated to 375
horsepower, but the L89 received aluminum heads whereas the L78
heads were made of cast iron." Ss396.com
For consignment, a1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS350 hardtop tribute
showing 522 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This recently
restored example includes replacement of the floors, trunk, tail
panel, rockers as well as suspension, mechanical, and cosmetic
components.
Exterior
Now in the two stage version of Burgundy Metallic, resembling
Burgundy Maroon, one of an incredible 18 color options available on
the Camaro in 1969. Naturally, a black SS "hockey stick" stripe
runs from the nose back to the doors and running parallel is
polished rocker trim flanked by 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels
wrapped in 215/70R15 tires with an early 2026 date code. A color
keyed spoiler rests atop the tail light panel and reverse lights
are set into the valance. Rear quarter louvers and a cowl hood
along with badging augment the profile and muscular stance of this
legendary configuration. Overall the body, paint and trim are in
excellent condition with minor imperfections noted as inclusions,
dimpling, orange peel, and one gap issue.
Interior
Our contrasting white interior begins on clean door panels bisected
by a silver trim line and shiny hardware. The seats also combine
smooth white vinyl and houndstooth inserts, once black, now faded
to the perfect red color to complement the exterior and the front
buckets along with the rear bench present in nice condition. A
three spoke steering wheel fronts the twin gauge presentation ahead
that includes the AC-branded tachometer and speedometer amongst
some slight overall patina of the dash. Woodgrain spruces up the
mid panel where the AM/FM/Cassette radio resides topped by vertical
vent levers. In the center console, the fantastic quad pod tilts
back with white faced gauges, ahead of a Hurst shifter in the wood
trimmed console. Clean black carpet, now with sound deadening, is
protected by SS branded mats and the trunk takes on a showroom
configuration with clean, barren painted floor topped by a clean
fitted carpet. The headliner has also been replaced and presents as
new.
Drivetrain
A clean and vibrant show is revealed with the newer hood lifted.
It's a date correct 350ci V8 with what are consignor states are
early Fuelie heads while an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor feeds the
fuel. It's mated to an early 70's Muncie M20 4-speed manual which
our consignor states has a new pressure plate and throwout bearing.
Power is routed to the 10 bolt rear axle with a consignor stated
2.73 gear set. The clean bay includes evidence of power brakes and
power steering.
Undercarriage
Super clean underneath with minimal surface rust, some residual
oil, and a clean, black undercoating. Dual exhaust runs through a
stock style muffler that emits two steel tail pipes out back. We
have power disc brakes in front, power drums in back, and
suspension includes coils spring up front and leaf springs in back.
The control arms, tie rod ends, and springs are newer.
Drive-Ability
The 350 comes to life with a satisfying exhaust note and we roll
this dark red beauty onto the test loop. A fresh restoration and
new tires deliver a fine experience with nothing to complain about.
Plenty of power, straight tracking, and all functions work as
they're supposed to. This bit of burgundy is ready for sipping!
While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were
working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these
functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
All buttoned up mechanically as well as on the exterior, and on the
interior as well. A beautiful color combo, all ready to roll in
style and even add a bit of excitement to your life. Just prepare
to be stopped for lots of conversation as 1st gen V8 Camaros are
hot, and this one checks nearly all the boxes!
