2009 Chevrolet Colorado 3LT Crew Cab Short Bed Pickup
"Ever since the S-10 was introduced in 1981, Chevrolet enthusiasts
have been forced to drop their own V8s into Chevrolet's compact
pickups-the bowtie division didn't see fit to offer eight pot power
in its pint size trucks. Those folks were usually looking to go
fast. Big power in a light truck can make for some startling
acceleration times. That sort of combination finally can be had
from the factory." Car and Driver, Jan 2009
For consignment, a 2009 Chevrolet Colorado 3LT crew cab short bed
pickup showing 38,281 title verified actual miles. This all stock
example originally came from Arizona and satisfies the need for a
compact truck with some serious power.
Exterior
The bright blue here is known as Aqua Blue Metallic and it makes
quite the appearance in its two stage application and clean
presentation. The crew cab means its four doors with the fronts
being longer and in profile, the truck maintains good proportions
with the short bed keeping things manageable between the long
wheelbase. Up front, the split and stacked lenses were exciting and
new back in '09 and the unique configuration retains its appeal
nearly 20 years later. All lenses, front and back, are flush to the
body and monochromatic bumper covers and side mirrors create a
clean, streamlined look. 18-inch wheels carry 235/50R18 tires with
a late 2021 date code and represent the only shiny metal on the
side other than the door handles and V8 call out. A sliding rear
window overlooks a clean bed with full liner. Imperfections include
some chips, curb rash on the wheels, scuffs, scratches, chips, and
some off color paint and orange peel on the lower fascia.
Interior
Nicely constructed door panels combine black materials and smooth
surfaces and all four present in nice shape. The 3LT includes
leather seats and electronic controls, here with black buckets up
front and a split bench out back that doesn't forget about
cupholders for rear passengers. Simple and clean is our view
forward where the standard steering wheel fronts an easy gauge
cluster and digital read out while the platinum colored faceplate
of the center stack houses the integrated AM/FM/CD radio and A/C
knobs. As a column shift truck, the center console provides storage
and requisite cupholders over gray carpet protected by fitted
weather mats. A gray headliner above surrounds the sunroof and has
hold handles for every occupant.
Drivetrain
The clean environment is home to the 5.3 liter LH8 V8, fuel
injected and rated at a healthy 300 horsepower. It's mated to the
venerable 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission and power is routed
to the 10 bolt rear axle with 3.42 gears.
Undercarriage
The driveshaft and exhaust are colored by surface rust but the
remainder of the underside is clean as can be with only a hint of
residual oil. The single exhaust travels through original equipment
and power brakes are here as front disc and rear drum. Suspension
consists of coil springs in front and leaf springs in back.
Drive-Ability
No complaints here! Comfortable, upright interior, manageable size
on the road, and plenty of power. We're amazed at how quiet this V8
is, but the large muffler is likely the reason! Runs well, tracks
straight, and all functions work as they should. While Classic Auto
Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of
our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working
at the time of your purchase.
As pick up trucks have gotten bigger over the past ten or fifteen
years, people often lament about the lack of mid and compact sized
trucks available; something that can get the job done without the
bulk of a big truck and all that comes with it. This well preserved
'09 is the antidote and there's no doubt that a fine example like
this will find a new home soon. So, we'll end it here so you can
make the call!
