ShownThis 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS Tribute is a striking
first-generation Camaro that combines classic muscle car styling
with a serious list of performance and drivability upgrades.
Finished in vibrant Candy Green with Ghostly Gray Z/28 racing
stripes, the car has the kind of visual presence that is difficult
to overlook. The body is described as all solid metal with no rust,
and the wheels and body have been ceramic coated. Numerous body
components have been replaced during the build, including the front
inner and outer quarter panels, rear quarter panels, door skins,
radiator support, and front windshield. A front spoiler, restored
bumpers, Fisher Body door sills, and the distinctive racing stripes
complete the aggressive presentation.Under the hood is a 454ci V8,
fed by a 750 CFM Holley carburetor and backed by a rebuilt
heavy-duty 700R4 automatic transmission. The transmission was
rebuilt by Shift Master Transmissions in Grand Rapids and features
a Go Fast torque converter and shift kit. Power is delivered
through a 12-bolt rear end equipped with 4.11 Positraction gearing.
A 3-inch dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers gives the
big-block an appropriately aggressive soundtrack, while an aluminum
radiator with electric fans provides additional cooling capacity.
The engine compartment has also been nicely detailed with accenting
chrome, although the owner notes that the exact horsepower and
extent of the engine's internal build are unknown. The chassis and
stopping power have received considerable attention as well.
Four-wheel power disc brakes provide a substantial upgrade over the
original braking system, while Slide-A-Link traction bars help keep
the rear end planted when the 454's torque is put to the pavement.
The car rides on a set of six Weld aluminum wheels, including two
4-inch-wide wheels, wrapped in four new tires. New wiring,
distributor, gas tank, electric fuel pump, and other components
throughout the car further contribute to its usable character.
Inside, the Camaro features a completely new interior with updated
seats, carpeting, headliner, interior accessories, power windows,
and a modern radio and speaker system. Vintage Air conditioning,
power steering, and a heater/wiper delete give the cabin a blend of
comfort and purpose.According to the current owner, this Camaro has
won two trophies at its last three shows and continues to attract
plenty of attention wherever it goes. The owner describes it as
"eye candy" with a detailed engine compartment and a
performance-oriented personality, while also noting that it is very
fast and should be driven with appropriate caution. Servicing and
upgrades throughout the build make this a particularly interesting
first-generation Camaro for someone looking for more than a stock
restoration. With its Candy Green finish, Ghostly Gray
Z/28-inspired stripes, big-block power, 4.11 Posi rear end,
four-wheel disc brakes, and extensive list of upgrades, this 1969
Camaro SS Tribute delivers the aggressive look and unmistakable
attitude of a classic American muscle car with plenty of modernized
performance built in.
