This 1966 Ford Mustang GT Fastback is an absolutely gorgeous A-Code
Fastback Mustang with great options and superb curb appeal! When
Ford introduced the Mustang in April 1964, it changed American
automotive culture almost overnight. Within two years, the car that
created the pony car segment had evolved into something even more
compelling and nowhere was that evolution more apparent than in the
1966 Mustang GT Fastback. First introduced in 1965, the Fastback
Mustang with its long sloping roofline, rear quarter louvers, and
the flowing rear deck gave the fastback an athletic presence that
the coupe and convertible simply could not replicate. It was also
the body style that Carroll Shelby chose as the foundation for his
GT350, a decision that permanently cemented the fastback's place at
the top of the first-generation Mustang hierarchy. The GT Equipment
Group was not a cosmetic exercise. It was a substantive performance
package, available only on V8-equipped cars, that transformed the
Mustang into a genuinely capable Grand Touring machine. On a 1966
GT, that meant front disc brakes as standard equipment, dual
exhaust with chromed trumpet tips exiting through a special cut
rear valance, fog lamps integrated into the grille bar, GT racing
stripes along the rocker panels in place of chrome molding, a
special GT gas cap, heavy-duty shock absorbers, the special
handling package, and more stout engine options. Of the total
Mustang production, Fastbacks made up less than 6% and of that, an
even smaller portion were equipped with the GT package. The 1966
Ford Mustang GT Fastback occupies a particular moment in American
performance history - the year the Mustang's formula was fully
refined, before the platform grew heavier and more complex with the
1967 redesign. This particular example comes to us from an East
Coast enthusiast who stewarded the car for more than 10 years.
Powering this A-Code Mustang is a 289 cubic inch V8 engine fed by a
single 4 barrel carburetor that together were said to have produced
225 horsepower when new. The 289 V8 is backed by a C4 Automatic
Transmission that makes this Mustang Fastback an easy car for
anybody to enjoy. Exhaust leaves this Mustang's small block Ford
powerplant through a dual exhaust setup featuring the iconic
GT-style trumpet exhaust tips the poke out through the lower rear
valence, producing terrific throaty exhaust notes. This Ford
Mustang Fastback comes outfitted with fantastic options! With
upgraded power steering, squeezing into that tight parking space at
the local car show or ice cream parlor is a total breeze, and the
overall driving experience is much improved. Further assisting
parking efforts is a driver's side chrome outside mirror that
improves visibility down the side of this Mustang and also gives
additional piece of mind during the occasional lane change while
cruising. Front disc brakes are another wonderful option included
with this Mustang GT since it makes bringing this '66 Fastback much
easier to bring to a complete stop. This 1966 Mustang Fastback also
comes equipped with all of the wonderful GT exterior trim upgrades
including the menacing fog lamps, rocker panel GT stripe package
and side emblems, the aforementioned trumpet exhaust tips, and a GT
gas cap. Riding on a set of Mustang Rally Wheels, each mounted with
Brand New BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, this Mustang GT Fastback has
a sporty look and fantastic ride. The Fastback body has been
recently refinished in Candy Apple Red paint that completes the
exterior look of this gorgeous Pony Car. The interior of this 1966
Ford Mustang GT Fastback is absolutely stunning! The black bucket
seats and rear bench are adorned with Deluxe Pony upholstery. The
black carpeting and floor mats, door panels, woodgrain-trimmed
padded dash, and the woodgrain 3-spoke Deluxe steering wheel are
all in great shape as well and retain a wonderful stock appearance.
The 5-pot instrument cluster is equipped with a 140 MPH
speedometer, temperature gauge, amp gauge, oil pressure gauge, and
fuel gauge, and they are further supplemented with the additional
Rally Gauges package which includes a 6,000 RPM tachometer and
clock. You'll be able to listen to all of your tunes while cruising
down the road since this Mustang is equipped with an upgraded
AM/FM/Cassette stereo system by JVC. The dash is finished off with
various other controls, a cigarette lighter, as well as a
woodgrain-trimmed glovebox. Whether you're adding to your existing
stable of Pony Cars or you're buying your very first classic car,
this 1966 Ford Mustang GT Fastback would make an excellent choice.
