1960 Ferrari 250 GT Pininfarina Series II Cabriolet Coupe
When most people think Ferrari they immediately go to the sleek
magnificently designed low slung mid engined aero sports car of the
modern day. Well on the contrary there was a time when Ferrari was
struggling to fund the racing effort and Enzo realized he needed a
car that would appeal to the masses, but still had a touch of
class. Enter the series production Ferrari 250 with a design
collaboration with Pininfarina. Let's go racing....again.
For consignment a very classy coupe/convertible two seater, which
presents in immaculate condition. This luscious Italian
collaboration checks all the boxes with a single headlight atop a
perfectly curved fender flanking an oval grille, hood scoop, shiny
rockers, beautiful paint, leather interior, and an immaculately
preserved convertible top, with wire wheels on each corner. Eccoci
qui!
Exterior
With a mere 14,159 miles, covered from head to toe in Verde
Seabird, this paint is flying high on the quality scale. With the
Scuderia dancing horse leading the way, we see a black egg crate
oval shaped grille complete with some extra touring lighting. On
either side atop a perfectly rounded over and just the right curved
fender there is a single headlight on either corner. A long front
quarter design, in the middle is a hood with a chrome edged hood
scoop. A gleaming chrome trimmed windshield creates the front
framing for the black canvas top which moves up and down
flawlessly. Door gaps are fab, chrome and trimmings all perfect,
and the rear of the car is looking a lot like the modern day MG
with vertical tail lights flanking the trunk lid and a chromed
lower bumper wrapping around the rear quarters and framing the
lower trunk. Gorgeous and very appropriate chromed wire knock off
hub wheels adorn each corner. Now we are sporting with ultimate
class.
Interior
Not to be outdone by the exterior we slip inside this 2 seater and
perch on one of two overstuffed bomber style buckets, covered in
rich saddle colored leather in perfect unison with the metallic
exterior Verde Seabird. Door panels sport it as well and cozy up to
the padded black vinyl dash with its metallic green instrument
circular cluster. A series of knobs and pulls are in a horizontal
black field below, and all are fronted by a large wood rimmed 3
spoked metal alloy steering wheel. A leather covered center console
houses the shifter and cross flagged badged ash receptacle. Like
new black carpeting covers the floors and presents very clean.
Drivetrain
The "carne" of the car that makes uniquely Ferrari as no one else
would place a 3.0 Liter SOHC V12 in a car of this size, and 240
horsepower. This lovingly restored power plant has a series of 3
Weber DCL6 2-barrel carbs, and a 4-speed manual transmission with
overdrive. This couples with a 4.57 rear axle and helps to light up
the wire spokes. Living large.
Undercarriage
As expected with a car of this caliper, the undercarriage is fully
coated in rustproofing and shows with no rust or even road dirt.
Quad exhaust snakes its way past 4 wheel power disc brakes,
independent front and leaf sprung rear suspension, and begins as
factory headers. And just the sound produced by this engine is like
listening to a Bach concerto, just music to the automotive ear. Eat
your heart out Triumph!
Drive-AbilityOnce I squeezed into this low slung 250 it fired right
up and immediately I was turning heads. On the test track it has
smooth endless acceleration, great handling, easy steering and
solid braking. Just like a Ferrari with all functions operating
bellissimosave for the radio not making a peep. While Classic Auto
Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of
our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working
at the time of your purchase.
100 percent class as well as some Italian whoop ass under the hood,
full on leather, all buttoned up in immaculate condition, perfectly
designed, and high rolling down the road with a smile on your
viso!
