"First known as the 124 Spider, when introduced in 1966, the car
sported a 1500 cc DOHC four cylinder engine that over the years
went up and down in displacement several times, with most of the
cars sold in the U.S. being 1756 cc and 1995 cc, both variants
equipped with a single Weber carburetor. Fuel injection was added
to California cars first in 1980 and to the other 49 State cars
later that year. About 700 turbocharged cars were factory
authorized conversions by Legend Industries. These are quite
entertaining and usually bring a significant price premium over
standard Spiders." Hagerty.com
For consignment, a 1981 Fiat Spider 2000 turbo convertible with a
title verified 82,726 actual miles. Along with the timing belt that
was done in 2021, this car has received important service in the
past few years and comes to you with the receipts, repair manuals
and some literature.
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by
the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws

Exterior
The double cowl on the hood is such a great design, they decided to
keep it with the model refresh in 2017. They also kept the grille
shape which, along with those humps, differentiates the face of
this car from its British counterparts. This example wears two
stage and aptly named Light Root beer Metallic augmented by gold
stripes and the coveted Turbo designation on the rocker and since
your eyes are drawn to the stripe, you may miss the Pininfarina
crest on the rear quarter. Out back, the fenders almost come to a
point at the corners underscored by a wrap around bumper under
which twin exhaust tips emerge. Nice 14-inch wheels look ideal and
are wrapped in 60 series tires with a mid 2020 date code.
Imperfections include some wear and discoloration of the tan canvas
top, inclusions, chips, some of the gold stripe missing, bubbling,
and some deplating of the plastic wheel opening trim.
Interior
It's just a coincidence, and not an ode to the UK that the door
panels are black and tan, smartly dressed like a well made Italian
suit. Inside, the leather bucket seats are in great shape and the
rear bench, more of a package shelf, also presents nicely. The
vibrant front begins with a three spoke sport steering wheel
fronting a wooden dashboard with Veglia instruments and a turbo
boost gauge in the colors of the Italian flag. An AM/FM/CD radio
heads up the center console which is also based in wood and houses
the glossy wood handled shifter in tan leather boot, all in great
condition. There's tan low pile carpet below and the trunk is
finished in flannel gray.
Drivetrain
In the busy bay, we find a 2.0 liter DOHC turbocharged inline four
cylinder pumping out 120 horsepower and injected via a Bosch
L-Jetronic system. It's mated to a 5-speed manual which sends power
to the rear axle with 3.90 gears. Power brakes and air conditioning
are on board.
Undercarriage
Driver quality conditions are found underneath with some residual
oil, soot, and typical metal oxidation. The single exhaust starts
from headers and runs through an ANSA muffler on its way to the
rear exit and there is no catalytic converter on board. Power disc
brakes are at all four wheels and suspension includes coil springs
front and rear with a 4 link included in back.
Drive-Ability
This quick starting Italian hits the test loop with tanta energia
and tracks straight with its low center of gravity yielding nothing
but fun in turns. Fully engaged with shifter, clutch, and gas, the
comfortable cabin proves to be just that, and dreams of windy
mountain roads come immediately to mind. All functions within this
little roadster work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
